I have a gripe!!!!!!!

It may not be proper to use this site as a venting tool, but I have to say my peace.
I heard on the radio today that a proposal is in the wings to use 100 million dollars of tax payers money to pay for the poor peoples electric bills so they can afford to run air conditioners in their homes.
HEY!- I grew up without A/C, and we sweated with fans going. I went to school every day without A/C and no one died. We were poor and our lifestyle reflected the way you were! My dad worked 6 days a week 10-14 hours a day and never asked for any help. We had food, a home, and love!
I'm tired of supporting (by force) the so called poor, who work and carelessly spend their money on booze and chips. The ones on welfare are buying junk with their free money and I'm tired of it!
I think welfare is a good thing- it helps those who are down on their luck and need help to get back on track. But we have too many "lifers"- those who do nothing to find a job- won't work and think the government (our money) is due them.
A lot of these people had there chance to get an education, but instead skipped school, went fishing and missed their chance--I'm sorry, but that's your screwup and why should I and all Americans pay these BUMS!
The poor say-"Look at all the folks that have a lot of things- a nice home, ect"- HEY- I worked long hours to get get what I have- you may find that that makes a difference- nothing was given to me- "I worked my * off for it"- TRY IT SOMETIME!
As it is now= we pay for welfare, School education, School lunch, vehicle inspections to the poor who's vehicles won't pass, section 8 housing, Visa bills not paid, Hospital bills,College, on and on and on....!
You BUMS are a drag to this country and you are not Americans but parasites that will soon mean an end to any sympathy we, the people have for the real people who need help. You are worthless and the pitts of the earth. Get off your duffs and act like a human being.!
I wish we had a big commode and could flush you away where you belong!! You take away, from the people who really need help, and that makes you the lowest form of dirt!!
I'm begining to think we should shoot any ilegal that tries to enter this country. "Congress"- get off your butts and start protecting our borders.! I got more, but I'm tired!

It will never happen daddo with all the good citizens in this country that think turning in the abuses of these programs are none of their business. So you can just kiss your good tax money down the drain for a very long time.

I don't know about the specific program you are talking about, but from my work with the "poor" I've found that your average "poor" person is an older woman, whose husband died, and left no way for her to support herself.

Yes, a lack of planning........but it sucks either way.

While in college I worked in a convenience store. I was surprised, and eventually angered, to see how many people would come in and buy expensive prepackaged food with their EBT (food stamp) card, and use what cash they did have to buy beer and cigarettes. I have no problem when families who need it receive assistance from the government; my mom worked for the social services for 14 years and I got a chance to see some great families, who needed help, receive it.

The discouraging part is when I see people like I mentioned above who have no intention of using government assistance to allow them to save, and spend wisely, so they can raise their standard of living. I definately don't know what the solution is, but the one we have now includes way too many opportunites for abuse.

My mom worked in the Energy Assistance division of Family Services here in Missouri - they provided heat in the winter to people who could not afford it- good thing. But air conditioning, that's going a little far...

Maybe you need to go to StLouis or Another big city and go with the coroner when he picks up am elderly person that has died because of a heat death. These people usually need medicine, food, and other things necessary for life. Food & Water, gotta have, must use what little they have in income to cover these costs. Comfort is the last thing they have on their mind. It is not a pretty death.


sorry for the delay in editing my response. I reread your post and realize that there are jerks that suck the system dry. These people should be set straight. There are people that do need some assistance. I have an elderly neighbor that these benifits are truely a life saver.

I once knew a guy who hooked up with a "baby factory"
(young always pregnant girl) and they milked the hell out of the system
for years. He used to joke about "getting a raise"
(having another kid) every other year. I remember one time when he
was complaining about the lobster tails being small this week... (the ones
he got with food stamps). Needless to say it made me sick, but woke me
up to reality and how some of these low life's survive way better off than
us working stiffs. The guy ended up dying from some strange disease,
(bad dope I think) , his old lady abandoned the kids
with his dad, and ran off with some other "wanna be low lifer" right after
he died. Crazy country we live in, where that kind of stuff can happen.
