HK 91 kits

I had a customer bring in a HK 91 parts kit and a forged aluminum receiver. He asked me to build a rifle out of it. I started as normal and got ot the point of putting the trigger return spring back in. I went about forming the bow tie bend and the damn thing broke ( never been a big fan of bending springs). I looked around for a spring out of the semi-auto version of this rifle before I even started this project but had no luck. After the part broke I spent an additional six months looking for a replacement but had no luck there. I can remember a time when it was a lot easier to get these parts. In the meantime the customer told me how he thought he should sue the company that sold it to him. I guess he thought it would be a kitchen table operation he could whip out in no time. He also said the seller made no mention of the work involved. He also me a few times and asked me if I could assemble it in the original configuration complete with bayonet lug and flash hider. I had to spend about an hour explaining the law in this issue which he did not like. After six months and not getting his way he picked up the unfinished project. I guess if he looks hard enough he will find someone to put it together the way he wants but its sure not going to be me. I think it would have been a bit easier if he would have educated himself before he made his purchase. I also think that will be the last rifle of its type I will take into my shop. Had no problem with the others I built ( a total of four). I guess we all run into folks that know what they want and do not care how they get it.
