I have been looking at both and don't know which to buy. I am looking at the hvy barrel or match version of the Springfield. Any accuracy differences?

JustC: SORRY TO TAKE SO LONG TO GET BACK TO YOU BUT I HAD OVERTIME AT WORK.THE M14/M1A ARE EXCELENT RIFLES RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. ACCURACY IS NEVER PROBLEM WHEN YOU HAVE TIME TO SET UP AND GET A GOOD SIGHT PICTURE. PRONE OR OFF A TABLE AT THE RANGE.BUT LOOK AT THE FOLLOW UP SHOTS RATIO. M14 HAS A DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEM. GAS PISTON PUSHES AGAINST OPERATING ROD. ROD COMES BACK AND UNLOCKS BOLT WITH A TWISTING MOTION. WHOLE ASSEMBLY MOVES TO REAR AND IS STOPPED BY REAR OF RECEIVER. MORE JARRING! THEN ASSEMBY GOES FORWARD PICKING UP NEXT ROUND; CHAMBERING THEN EVERYTHING MOVES FORWARD AND LOCKS BACK DOWN. HARD FOR EVEN AN EXPERT TO HOLD ON TARGET.H-K 91'S AND 93'S WORK OFF A DELAYED ROLLER LOCKING ACTION. BOLT IS LOCKED INTO BARREL ASSY. BY TWO ROLLERS HELD OUT BY SPRING PRESSURE. THIS DELAYS UNLOCK LONG ENOUGH FOR PREESURE TO DROP TO ZERO. BOLT MOVES STRAIGHT BACK THEN MAIN SPRING SENDS BOLT BACK FORWARD TO STRIP NEW ROUND AND CHAMBER. TO HELP EXTRACTION H-K HAS A FLUTED CHAMBER THAT PUSHES THE EMPTY BRASS OUT. YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL H-K BRASS FROM EVERY ONE ELSE'S.THIS RIFLE HAS ONLY 4 MOVING PARTS WHEN FIRED. NO GAS SYSTEM TO CLOG UP! THE RECOIL IS STRAIGHT BACK INTO YOUR SHOULDER AND VERY EASY TO CONTROL. I HAVE LET OTHER PEOPLE FIRE MY TOY AND THEY ARE AMAZED AT HOW LOW A RECOIL IT HAS. THERE IS THING ALL H-K'S HAVE IN COMMON. THE BARREL IS ROTO-FORGED AT THE FACTORY. A LONG THICK TUBE OF BARREL STEEL IS SET ON A MIRROR IMAGE OF THE RIFLING AND CHAMBER. ROTATING HAMMERS AT MANY BLOWS PER MINUTE START AT THE CHAMBER END AND MOVE FORWARD TO THE MUZZLE. THEN THE FINISHED BARREL IS UNSCREWED OFF THE MANDREL AND FINISHED. WHAT THIS DOES IS TAKE ALL STRESS OUT OF THE BARREL METAL. THE H-K'S WERE DESIGNED TO BE A LIGHT MACHINE GUN JUST BY MOVING THE SELECTOR LEVER. WITH LOW RECOIL AND A BARREL THAT WON'T CHANGE ZERO WHEN UNDER RAPID FIRE, A RIFLEMAN CAN BRING RAPID AND EFFECTIVE FIRE UPON THE THE ENEMY. I CAN SET UP AND PUT A 20 RD. MAG DOWN RANGE INTO A 200 YARD TARGET IN ABOUT 8 SECONDS AND NONE OF THE BULLETS WILL BE PAST THE 8 RING. AN EXPERT CAN ENGAGE MANY DIFFERENT TARGETS AT DIFF. RANGES VERY FAST. DISADVANTAGE OF H-K IS NO LAST ROUND HOLD OPEN. CURE IS LOAD SECOND LAST ROUND WITH TRACER. WHEN YOU SEE TRACER; DUMP MAG AND INSERT NEW. I HOPE THIS HELPS WITH YOUR DECISION.

If you want to get into any kind of competition shooting go with the M1A/M14. Lots of great rifles out there but if 7.62 NATO is your round the M1A is the rifle of choice at every NRA/CMP competition! No question there. Sure there are still a few Garand shooters with Navy Mark II M-1's chambered in 7.62 NATO, like me, but they are dinosaurs. The M1A handles the hotter 7.62 NATO rounds designed for 1000 yard shooting better than any rifle of which I am aware. The foreign guns can be fun but you can't do much more than accurately plink by yourself with them. Beach
