Dear voter,Proposals to create a national identity card system are gaining momentum in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks. While federal authorities say they need new ways to pick out suspects moving through checkpoints like airports or border crossings, many privacy advocates fear that Congress may force law-abiding citizens to carry the equivalent of electronic dog tags.Does America need a national ID card system?Log on to http://www.vote.com to answer that question, and your opinion will be automatically sent to your congressional representative, senators and the president. This proposal could potentially affect the daily life of every American - or it may help save many lives. Please make your vote count, and be sure to forward this message to friends and family so they can make their voice heard too! http://www.vote.com

Get serious about controlling borders and immigration, put an end to this so-called war on drugs, forget about foolish schemes to give us some stinking ID card!

Not me. I'm already Id'd from everything I charge, from any gun I buy (through FFL), and yes, through this computer. If you know how, you can give me the serial number of my computer just from this post. That's enough.

I think they can take their national ID, wad it up in a tight little ball, and SHOVE IT! Just my thoughts.
We only have a few special years with our children in which they desire our time, attention, and love. After that time is over, it is gone forever, and we will be the ones that desire their time, attention, and love. Make those few, short years count - don't miss it!!!

WE HAD A TALK ABOUT THIS AT MY SEC. AMEND. MEETING LAST NIGHT. WE ALL READY HAVE THE NATIONAL ID IN PLACE SINCE 1998. BIG LOOP HOLE WAS POINTED OUT! IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT THE ID CARD YOU WILL BE TREATED AS AN ALIEN EVEN IF YOU WERE BORN HERE. THAT MEANS YOU CAN'T GET OR BUY ANYTHING!!

I had a buddy get a tattoo of a barcode of his ss# as a political statement. Maybe, it won't be so funny in a few years.

Social security numbers, drivers licenses, military records, police records, birth certificates etc. etc. etc.!Why would we possibly need a national ID unless we were new to this country? If you want to know where your National ID is-it's in the main computer at the IRS.[This message has been edited by alledan (edited 09-26-2001).]

As already stated here, we already have a national ID, it is called a social security card. All it needs is a picture on it like the driver license. According to the law, it is not a ID, but try to leave it off a lot of things and see what happenes.Like the NICS check, or a credit card application. leeblackman has the answer. Bar Codes! Perfect![This message has been edited by J.John (edited 09-26-2001).]

The really ironic thing is that we'd probably have to pay a fee to get it.I won't get one, I won't carry one and if they send me one anyway, I'll burn it and I'll get together a like minded group of citizens and stage a public burning of our "National ID Cards". It's the most ludicrous concept I've heard of yet. It's typical of all the rhetoric and hype that's been going on since Sept. 11.We should get serious about proper documentation and control of immigration, not tacking on some more bureaucratic nonsense to law abiding American's lives. Why don't we just tatoo a "666" on everyone's forehead? Like the bible says, those who have it will belong, those who don't, won't. Or better yet, let's put a computer chip in everyone's body so we can all be tracked at all times. Orwell's 1984 can happen, it'll just be a little later than '84. It's all a crock of * and anyone who stands for such nonsense is as un-American as the terrorists!

One other thing. I've heard a lot said lately about Americans having to accept some dimishing of our civil liberties in exchange for better security. Hog wash! If we accept a decrease in our liberty then the terrorist have won. We will be victorious when we demonstrate beyond all doubt that no matter what they do to us we have always been, are now and ever shall be; "The land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE"!

Dano! I blush to think... everywhere on their bodies...? No tattoos for me. And no id card. I agree with the sentiment best expressed by the bad boy (more and more I think he is really a good boy) above. This smacks of totalitarianism if not Fascisim.
