Anybody tried the Magpul PMAG Windowed AR-15 Magazine? Are they as good as the regular PMAG?

I have used both, and they work the same, both very reliable. If your one who wants to check remaining ammo frequently, then the window version is for you.

Yep same here, normally I spring for the cheaper gen II but have a picked up a few in trades and they run just fine.

Kind a silly to have one of those here in California. Figure it'll be locked at 10 rounds so all I'd see would be a spring [:D].

They work fine. Window is not really useful. The lancer mags you can see thru from the rear

Magpul windowed are just as good as the original but cost a little more. IMHO, Magpul mags are superior to the original GI mags. They can take abuse and be cleaned out with soap and water.

When I am at the range and I assist people with problems with their ARs not feeding or other issues, I always let them use one of my Magpuls as a test to determine if they have a magazine problem.

No wonder the military and LE are going to them.

Love them. I use both windowed and non, but I prefer the windowed. PMAGs are the only magazines I use in AR-15 and AR-10.

I'm old school; I only use 20 rd Colt/USGI mags. If you are ever under fire & have to go prone, you don't want to worry about that long mag banging against the ground.

I guess that makes sense if the only time you fire your weapons is "under fire" and having "to go prone".

I like to go to the range once in a while, between firefights with my neighbors. For that, I prefer the 30 round PMAGs.

I use the P=mag 10 rounders in my personal "post California ban" (Bullet button) guns and they work great. I did have a couple of gen 1 30 round P-mags split at the seams and fail several years ago, so I'm not all that confident in the 30-rounders as a result. (I hear newer P-mag 30 round models are very good, it's just a personal thing with me when something fails unnecessarily like those did.)

In my "pre ban" AR's and those I oversee at the office I stick to high quality 30-round GI mags like BCM, Brownells, etc. with the Magpul followers, so far I've never had a magazine-related issue in my own guns or the full-auto M-4's I'm responsible for at work.

The magazine windows are useful if you aren't really paying attention to your round count and want to get an idea what's left in the mag, but with round-count discipline they're not really needed. Choice is yours if you want the window model or not, if they're a lot more expensive I'd just stick with the plain ones and save the $. [:)]

+1 I can't say I use the windows much, but they are a nice feature in case you want a quick check.

Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

They are as good and I like them better, I like to see the round count in the mag.
