I raced go-carts for 4 years. I came in second in points every year. The person my dad bought engines from his son beat me in points every year.

He would have motors on a shelf and i could not pick which one. He would get the one he wanted me to have.[:(]

With me coming in 1st or 2nd the 3rd person could only protest the next spot.

So if i cam in second the first place car could not get protested unless i protested the first place car.

A protest is when you think the car in front of you is cheating and you put up 150 dollars and the other car puts up 150 dollars and they take the engine apart and whoever wins gets the money.

So it was important for me to come in second every week because my Dad would not protest the person giving him the engines.[:(]

Dave do you know Tony Harrison? He was a gocart racer from Wake Forest. He has a bunch of trophies in his shop. He is about 45 or 50 Y/o and has a Auto shop of Hwy98 between W-F and Durham.

I always wanted to race gocarts but I ended up racing speedway bikes instead. That morphed into motocross. I tried my hand at it but I was not fast enough so joined the Army[:D]

We are about the same age. I probably has raced against him. If i did i do not remember.

When i was 5 my dad bought me a motorcycle and he planned on me racing motorcycles but i never was good enough to race motorcycles. I can ride very well but not good enough to race.

My Dad and i went to a circle track motorcycle race and a 12 year old kid raced in about 4 different classes including with men and won all of them.

He was so small his Dad would hold his bike up at the starting line. His feet could not touch the ground. He was really really amazing. No way i could race against him.

I started racing a 2 stroke flat track bike at 13. It was a 1971 Maico 250 what a blast.

At one time I was pretty good but I had a bad wreck when I was 16 and my Mom said not more so I started riding MX on a 76 Husky 360. Last bike I raced was a 1979 Maico 440 4 speed Sand Spyder, what a beast. I got the bike brand new in a box. It cost $1200 bucks back then and that was a lot of money.

My Hero was Joel Robert even though he rode Jap bikes. I was sponsored my a Husky, KTM, Maico dealership in Gainsville Ga. They helped me work on the bike and supplied parts.

my brother, cousin ,BIL, and nephew, all got into go cart racing . about 20 years ago all did fairly well won some lost some , they would order the latest cam or parts then copy them
my nephew went on to race round track cars and trucks was doing good but them screwed up his personal life . his dad my BIL was a real good fabricator and welder built the most of the cars/ trucks
as for me I never got involved did take them for a ride on occasion just awesome going that fast sitting on the ground made it seem that much more fast [:D]
same with local Roundy round track lots of buddies raced tried to get me too race or be partners they knew I could drive and had no fear , but my hold back was the money pit shovel money work all week on the car race / break / crash / and start over the next week with 2x the money going in
I just like drag racing cost $$ but I did not tear up the cars [:(!]
