Went to a cartridge collector's show today

Just thought I'd share this. I attended my first cartridge collector's show today. Very small, unpublicized. I picked up a few fairly oddball cartridges to display with the guns, might shoot one or two. I got 5 7.35 Carcanos at $1 ea, 3 6.5X53R Dutch Mannlichers at $1 ea, and 3 8X56R Kropatscheks at $2 for 1 and $2.50 for the other two. Not a cost effective way of buying ammo, but it was fun shooting the breeze with these guys nonetheless. And just to rile you vintage ammo collectors out there- I AM going to shoot some of this stuff. My personal limit for ammo is $1 per round to shoot, so the Dutch Mannlicher and Carcano is flying downrange!!!

jonk, Where are some places where you find values for the old cartridges. I don't seem to have much luck searching the net, some pointers if you could give them would be appreciated.

I'm no expert on this. My knowledge of vintage cartridge prices is pretty much limited to those for which I have a gun chambered. I do believe there are price guides out there, but they are hard to find. Generally speaking, the older and rarer the cartridge, the more it commands. Condition, headstamp, case material, bullet type, country of orgin, and some other factors are all important. I guess the best guide is to list what you have and see if anyone can help, or take any of your vintage stuff to a cartridge show or gun show with cartridge dealers and ask.
