Why no load data?

Anyone know why there is no load data out there for an 8mm Mauser to use .323 185gr Rem PP bullets? There is data for lighter HOrnady bullets, but none for this heavier bullet, closer to the mil original. Someone said that this bullet is generally only used in 8mm Rem mag. Why? I have developed my own load and find it a very accurate, useable round in my Mausers.

Jonk, in this particular case I don't *know,* but sometimes it's because the mfg or 3rd parties consider it an inappropriate use of the bullet for whatever reason. I've seen this before a few times in other cartridges & that was the answer I received on one occasion when I inquired.

In an old cartridge conversion book I have under remarks for:Cartridge: 8X57ROther names: 8MM Mauser RimmedCase Type: Rimmed BottleneckUnder remarks it sates: When loadedwith .323 bullets this round is known as the 8X57RS.Check your manual for this load data. Most 8MM Mauser call for .318 Bullets.Double check everything before you fire any loads you make up.Hope this might help you.

Turbo, the .318 has been obsolete for a long long time. It was the origenal 8x57 JRS bullet size. Today, the .323 size is "standard".

I might mention that I am a fairly experienced reloader; I am only 22, but have been reloading about 3 or 4 years, about 30,000 rounds, and have several 8mm Mausers, and so am quite familiar with them. Incidentally, for anyone interested, my 'pet load' is 48gr of BLC2. If you choose to use this, it is solely at your own risk. It is probably a bit heavy. I arrived at it by the very unscientific method of loading until I was close in recoil and velocity to the cheap Turk surplus on the market... I only use it in Mausers of good condition in .323. I figured, as this action can basically handle 100,000psi+, it should be no trouble; so far it hasn't been. I know a bunch of you doomsdayers will worry about this, but seeing as the Mauser data in most load manuals is always downplayed in case anyone should use a .323 round in a .318 gun, I figured I'd be ok.
