fishing and such

I've been going out on the local river in search of all sorts of fishes. I need some advice.1. For the catfish, I normally use a big nightcrawler and a hunk of clam neck. Throw it out there on the bottom and wait. Usually works pretty well, but I was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions. Has anyody tried that Powerbait catfish stuff? How does it work?2. In the spring there's a big run of striped bass up the river. What's the best lure for them? I've never caught a freshwater striper, and I need some advice.3. Why is it that some people who fish along the bank always leave all of their garbage right there on the shore, as if they expect some maid or something to come along and clean it up. I'll be headed up the river and see a bunch of guys drinking beers and chowing down and fishing and two hours later when I'm coming back down the river ALL of their trash will be right there. It sickens me. And I'm sad and frustrated to say this, but 9 times out of 10 it is recent immigrants to our country. If you are going to leave your country and come to ours, shouldn't you treat it with some simple respect? Shouldn't you have the common decency to clean up after yourself?Well, that's my complaining and moaning for this morning. I know it isn't too PC, but people who trash nature really get on my nerves.

When we went to Virginia, they said to use chicken livers that are left in the sun all day for catfish! Smell......yep! Something you could try if you are brave!

Stripers "LOVE" eel's. If you can get them at a bait store near you & its a legal bait in your state you will catch stripers, guaranteed. With regards to people leaving trash. I hate slobs like that. Those types of people have no respect for our beautiful country, period.

Catfish will eat anything that stinks. The chicken liver idea is good, but I`d ad a piece of nasty fish skin with the liver, which is soft and comes off the hook easily. That way when he steals your chiken liver ,you`ve still got bait on the hook.I don`t eat any catfish!!The fresh water ones look to much like the the saltwater ones, and them are not made to be ate!!!

I like to use cut bait for catfish mostly and keep the crawlers for a backup. For the stripers I use top water plugs and live shiners or redbellys. I know what you mean about those jerks leaving there trash everywhere, I hate that! Either we live close to each other or there are A**holes like that everywhere!

We have earthworms here that get to 9" long, diggem up after a good rain and will catch cats-garranteed. We always bring a trash bag with us when we fish and clean up the area we fish. Shouldn't have to do this but it beats lookin at it all day/night. I can amagine what these peoples homes and yards look like- Scum Bags of the earth! Maybe I could dump my trash in their yards- how could they tell?

About 8 years ago I went with a school group to Puerto Rico. We travelled all over the country, the mountains, the shore-line, etc. Absolutley beautiful country, amazing geography, all of it trashed by the Puerto Ricans. Garbage everywhere. You sit on this beautiful beach and pick up and handful of sand and let it run through your fingers, and EVERY SINGLE TIME you'll wind up with a pull-tab. Gorgeous lakes and rivers, and the shorelines are full of garbage. Our hosts were the nicest people you'll meet, and we watched amazed as we drove along this beautiful road and they threw their trash right out the window. We even asked them about it later, how they could mess up such a beautiful place, and they laughed and said that everybody does it. The ONLY nice beaches we came across were those owned and maintained by American companies. It's sad to say, but any time I see a bunch of Puerto Rican guys standing around fishing I know two hours later when I come back they'll be gone and their trash will be scattered all over the place. Sad.

Good old stink bate will get a channel cat every time. Just smash the dough around a treble hook and let'er float just off the bottom about 2' from your weight. Gives him a chance to suck it in and out a few times before he takes it. Your weight will set the hook most of the time, but a little jerk always helps.Striped bass like those rubber worms with the curly tail also.
