Any NY lawyers or judges?

I was reclining in my chair with a nicotine product and an adult beverage paging through my new handloading manual the other day and turned to the page that pertained to the .218 Bee when I was struck with a very bad feeling. I obtained a NY CCW and the pistols I owned had to be listed on the CCW along with where they were stored. I moved from the state of NY in June of 2001 and took all of my guns with me. When my permit expires in 4 years will they come looking for me at the address listed on my permit? I won't be there but I don't want a warrant out for my arrest in the state of NY. I wonder if they will get cranky if I tell them I took all my guns with me when I moved without going through an FFL. Hmmmmm.

I am not familiar with NY law, but why would NY care that you took your property with you when you left? You did not transfer the guns to anyone. You can legally transport your guns to your new location, as along as you will be legal at the new location. (Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986.) If you want to kick the sleeping dog, give NY authorities a call, tell them you are gone and ask what should you do about your permit when it expires?

I am aware that I lawfully transported my firearms but I am wondering if they will come looking for me in 2006 after I fail to renew my permit. If I no longer live at my previous address I am wondering if a warrant will be issued. I'll have to contact TrinityScrimshaw with regards to this. He'd be sure to know.TrinityScrimshaw--I'd be delighted if you could weigh in on this. All firearms that are listed on the permit have been transferred to dealers via trades here in Iowa.[This message has been edited by idsman75 (edited 04-05-2002).]

Ids-If I read that right, you complied with NY regs while there, then, you left NY, took your property with you and legally traded off, (in another juridiction) your property to another via an FFL holder?Seems all good to me. Remember one of the things they teach in any good acadamy, it is not illegal in one state's law (Such as NY) to commit a crime in another state (Such as IO), as long as all the the legal requirements have been met for that first state(NY).

Based on what you've told us, you haven't broken ANY law.I don't believe their CCW data base will sound an alarm when your renewal date comes up. I'm sure they hope permit holders will forget to renew and then they can prosecute them when they're caught with an illegal carry. Anyway, why in the world would they care if you didn't renew? They don't want CCW permit holders in the state to begin with. Why not call 'em and tell 'em you've moved and they can go pi$$ up a rope. What can they do about it? NADA...ZIPPO...ZILCH. Well, you need the same type of permit to merely own a firearm. You have to list all firearms you own on your permit. If my permit expires, it doesn't mean that I just don't get to carry anymore. It means that I am in possession of firearms for which I have no valid permit to own.

Idsman - I thought you were just joking around. You are serious - that all of your weapons in NY are a registered item and you have to go through a permit process for each? With their location and how stored?
