Common Sense Gun Law?

The recent drive by antis to chip away the 2nd Amendment has been based on foreign nationals coming into the country and supposedly purchasing legal firearms. What do the members think about a law that says that you have to be a citizen of the country in order to purchase a firearm. I can't think of a reason why this should be opposed. Could this be the first ever common sense gun law???

Seems to me that owning a gun should be one of those incentives for getting your citzenship, however, shouldn't visitors to our shores that are not criminals have the right to defend themselves against those who would take advantage of an immigrants "ignorance of the laws?"Sounds like a good arguing post! I am undecided, so far.

I think our Constitional rights apply to Americans. Non residents are here by our sufferance and have no Constitutional rights. They do deserve to be treated with dignity. If they are here to do harm to us they warrant a dignified boot in the * and extradition or imprisonment.

Badboy, I am afraid you are incorrect. The laws provide visitors to the U.S. including illegal aliens the same constitutional rights as citizens. I am not sure how far that goes, for example I think you already have to be a citizen to own a firearm, to vote etc.

I think that you should have to be a citizen to buy a firearm - or how else would you pass any background check. Don't we have to go through a great deal of paperwork and checks when buying overseas?
