Up or Down?

When you put your rifle or shotgun into the truck(going to or coming from the feild for instance)and the end is resting on the floorboard,do you have it muzzle-up,or muzzele-down?The reason I ask is that one of my hunting buddys always puts it muzzle -up,which in my mind,would not be good in case of an accidental discharge.We do always make sure no bullets are chambered until we're at our spots,but you never know.I've questioned him and even had him turn it around a few times,but he says he's always done it that way.Says it keeps from wearing the blue on the end of the barrel.What do you all think?

MUZZLE down?, if bore is completly covered and an AD happen, look out for schrapnel. Most recent vehicles have carpet and the muzzle nestles down into it, BANG, There goes the barrell..There shouldnt be a shell in the chamber anywho.

I always put mine in a case muzzle down this prevents any damage to the crown or barrel by small gravel or grit.

Depends if you want to take a chance on shrapnel around your feet or shrapnel around your head.

Exactly what I do and have for years, even when I used to carry a rifle alot in the truck I never had any muzzle wear...By the way my cousin about ruined his deer hunt one day last season by carrying the rifle muzzle down in a dirty floor board.

I usually case mine, but always muzzle down, chamber empty (sometimes the entire gun) before I enter a vehicle with a sporting arms.

I always stick it muzzle up....I figure if I did have an AD at least with a hole in the roof the vehicle will still drive home rather than blow apart a fuel line or brake line or something in the electrical system if it goes off through the floor or firewall and leave me stranded out in the woods [:D]
