Due to operations I had 3 years ago I got a hernia in the gut above the waist. I had a operation to repair it 2 months ago, well it's back. Is this common or should I find another Doctor?

HAVE YOUR DOC PUT IN A ZIPPER. MY REPAIR HAS LASTED OVER 30 YEARS.

I have the same problem you do. I have a large scar and I keep getting hernia's on it. They fill me up with mesh to fix them and they are usually back in a year or less. I have two big ones on the scar now. I will live with it until they start to bother me and then go in and get them fixed.

Last few times after the repairs I did ZERO lifting. I went beyond what the docs told me to do and they still come back. I guess for some people the mesh just will not cut it.

Course my scar goes from the pubic hair to just above my sternum.

They used a piece of mesh about 8x10 the last time, maybe this time I can talk them in using chicken wire!

Follow doctors orders exactly. Do not lift, do not stress yourself. Quit your job if need be. It took many years but my father died from complications from a hernia that kept coming back. After so many surgeries there is nothing that can be done.

My father had one about 2 years ago,has had no problems. He was 70 years old. It did slow him down, took about 6 months to truly get over it.

Inguinal hernia "scoped" on a Friday in '94. Was back to work on Monday. "No brag. Just fact." Haven't had a problem with it since and I lift some pretty heavy stuff. Sometimes up to 25 lbs.

    Mudge the healed

Whatever you do, don't get your operation done at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Wa.

A guy I worked with for 12 years went into the hospital last year for some routine hernia surgery and died. Turns out he had a heart problem that nobody knew about and the operation killed him. Word is that he'd be alive today if the hospital had just done some basic tests to determine his fitness for the surgery.

    I wouldn't let those quacks put a bandage on my dog's *.

Find a different Doc. It took 3 different times to get it right. The third Doc took out all the old scar tissue stretched the skin and sewed it up. I have no Belly button now, (I do not miss the old lint collector anyway) but have not had a return in over 15 years. I still do some fairly heavy lifting. He told me that with mesh, they would have to leave a vent hole in the bottom corners of the incision, because you could have a fluid draining out of it forever. Anyone know if that is true?

If I knew then, what I know now.

Thanks for everyones help, I go to the Doctor tomorrow will post the outcome tomorrow night. The problem I have is I have a very weak heart, I don't want to be put to sleep too many times.
I had a vent hole with a tube, Dr removed after 1 week
Don't have to worry about that hospital in WA, I'm in KY
