- NATIONAL One dead as home invaders clash with swordsman A man may face charges after using a samurai sword to fight off a gang of intruders in his Adelaide home, killing one and seriously injuring another. Police have questioned the 27-year-old man, who was also injured, but today had not decided whether his actions were reasonable in the circumstances. Police said four to six people armed with sticks, iron bars and possibly a knife broke into the Devon Park house just after midnight last night, attacked the occupant and demanded money and drugs. A fight broke out and one of the intruders suffered two stab wounds to the chest. He was later found dead in a hallway. Responding to calls from neighbours, uniformed officers arrested two more men nearby and charged them with aggravated serious criminal trespass, property damage and assault occasioning actual * harm. Superintendent Tony Rankine said they were still searching for at least one other person whom they believed was seriously injured. They said the amount of blood at the scene of the break-in indicated the injured person may be unconscious, and said patrols were checking nearby homes and hospitals. Clothes were believed to have been stolen from a backyard clothesline in an apparent attempt to stem the flow of blood. "It would appear an artery has been severed by the amount of blood," Superintendent Rankine said. The dead man was known to police but they were awaiting official confirmation of his identity. He was aged in his early 20s, as were his accomplices. Police remained unsure if just four people were involved in the break-in but said it was possible there were as many as six. The occupant of the home was treated in hospital for unspecified head and body injuries and was then detained by police for questioning. Superintendent Rankine said it was too early to say if or what charges he might face, but they were liaising with the South Australian Director of Public Prosecutions before completing their inquiries. "We'll be in consultation with the department of public prosecutions during the day and also the Major Crime Investigation Section and we'll take appropriate action once we complete our inquiries," he said. "If there is a need to lay charges then that will occur. "But at this stage it's too early to predict what the outcome will be." He declined to comment on whether or not police believed the man's actions to be reasonable in the circumstances. "That's a matter that needs to be looked at probably after the inquiries are completed," he said. The two intruders arrested by police were expected to appear in court later today. Police said nothing was taken during the break-in and no drugs were found in the house. A search of a business premises adjacent to the house was still to be conducted. Six bad dudes in your house with pointy and blunt objects.......can't see how they would have good intentions. Seems to me the occupant of the home is justified in kickin' a little butt!

The governments of Australia, Canada and the U.K. have done the worst thing imaginable to their citizens. They have disarmed them and in so doing have made them all either victims or victims to be. Haven't heard about Canada but we'vw all read and seen numerous reports about the violent crime rates in Britain and Australia skyrocketing. It's incomprehensible to me how the gun-grabbers in ANY country can't understand the ramifications of disarming their citizens!Mudgeps. Does "incomprehensible" and "ramifications" qualify me for the Smoking Jacket club?
I can't come to work today. The voices said, STAY HOME AND CLEAN THE GUNS!

That guy has big cajones, taking on six criminals and whopping *. Way to go man. Next thing the socialists will want to outlaw swords. Can't have self protection - it might interfere with the criminal's rights.
So many guns to buy. So little money.[This message has been edited by badboybob (edited 10-18-2001).]

I guess he (the homeowner) should have read the intruders their rights before carving on them, if he had then he would be exonerated. That would have giving them poor thieves and robbers a fair chance.Scratch another country from the list of countries not interested in visiting..

Such a shame, too. Austrailia really is a beautiful country. Especially in the center. Miles and miles of open land, virtually uninhabited. Perfect for long-range target practice.
