Washington-AP -- Two senators are proposing major changes at the F-B-I.Senators Patrick Leahy and Charles Grassley want people who handle sensitive information to undergo "periodic" lie detector tests.Leahy says the tests aren't perfect, but they might have caught Robert Hanssen, who was allegedly spying for Russia from within the agency. The lawmakers also want to create an internal security division and offer greater protection to whistle-blowers.Their proposal would also give the Justice Department's inspector general jurisdiction over the F-B-I.The agency has been under fire in recent years for a series of mistakes, as well as what critics have called a cover-up mentality.Recent problems have included the loss of weapons and computers, the mishandling of documents in the Timothy McVeigh case, and the botching of the Wen Ho Lee investigation.
