Get Your FFL at Home

Someone is advertising--- a get your FFL , federal firearms license at home kit for $18.95 iTEM # 2582722-- AND I feel that I must take exception to this because the kit seller is failing to notify his customersthat BATF will only issue a federal firearms license to a COMMERCIAL STOREFRONT LOCATION, which is certainly not "at home" unelse you happen to live in a commercial store front.Possibly ,the seller may mean that you can apply for a federal firearms license from your home,HOWEVER, you will not be issued a GUN SHOP license unelse you have a commercial store front todo business from.If you are not intending to rent a store to opperate from, dont bother to buy the kit unelse you only want a CURIOS AND RELICSlICENSE which I believe BATF allows to opperate from a residence.A curios and relics license only allows you to purchase firearms declaired curios and relics by the BATF excluding most semi autorifles and most, if not all handguns, revolver or semiauto.I hate to see some one think they can start a home business and spend their money on a kit ,onlyto have to find out that they need to pay rent for a store front if even allowed to open a gun shop because of restrictive anti gun zoning laws and other red tape such asexpensive libiality & thief insurance.Hope this opens some eyes.

Not that I have any real interest in the ad, and I have heard the ATF is cracking down some on locations of FFL businesses in cities, but I do have a friend who lives on a farm out in the country, and he has an FFL license, not just a C&R license. Actually, he is in a rented modular home on a country tract, and just renewed his license a few months ago. He rents the home from his in-laws. As I say, I've heard they are more restrictive but I think much of that has to do with complying with city zoning ordnances. The ATF might require you to comply with such local ordnances. I think if there are no zoning ordnances, you can still have a "home business" FFL.

Not that he needs reinforcement from me but Saxonpig is right. Comply with all the local laws and BATF doesn't much care about your physical location. THEY'RE WILLING TO PULL A 3AM RAID ANYWHERE!!!If I'm not mistaken, this "kit" doesn't supply you with anything you can't get from the BATF for nothing. There could be something in there that BATF doen't supply, but whatever it is I don't think it's worth $18.95.Mudge the dubious

Another shining example of the Barnum principle. Get stuff for free, then sell it to folks who could have gotten it also but dont know how.

I have had an FFL out of my home for 24 years with about 2300 entries in my log books. Have had two audits, both thorough, cordial, and professional...even the one when rumors said the ATF was trying to eliminate guys like me. My agent denied that, saying she had never been told to audit me any differently than a storefront.
