Hey Evilatf, Looks like the previous post was poisoned, before I had a chance to respond. The question of whether the right to bear arms is primary to all other rights doesn't hold water, don't misunderstand me, it's important in the scheme of things, however it's not primary for these reasons. After Independence was won in this country, and civilization started taking root, an our great union was formed, the rule of law became primary. It's evident that the sacrifice of fortunes, blood and lives shed by our countrymen, was shed because of their vision of freedom reigning supreme among the citizenry of this nation. All the rights gained by armed conflict are enumerated, as well as could be expressed by our founding fathers in our Constitution.I say that a weapon more potent and powerful than any firearmmen was handed down to the citizenry by these patriots. And that weapon is "the RIGHT to Vote", there is nothing more important, but that a person excersize this civic responsibility, no it's a DUTY,, for every person that can, to vote; to vote. And to cast their vote with careful and a concise reflection of the impact his/her vote will have on the whole of the populace. Our rights have been eroding, because well intentioned americans, don't vote, or when they vote they throw their vote away, on nonsense, or don't give full thought to the importance of their vote.As some of you have posted previously, "your in awe" over our friend here on which this original post was made. And thats fine and well, if your easily impressed, by the transperancy of the act, he committed in order to get your vote to the Senate. As I stated before, the only reason why the candidate committed this deed was because of his need for publicity and the gains afforded by frontpage headlines, in his endeavor.I would have more respect for the individual, if he had taken such measures, as an ordinary citizen, before declaring his candidacy, it's obvious that his timing is perfect for his needs and to generate maximum effect and response.I'm for the 2d Amendment, but I get tired of hearing the whining from those that are constantly complaining and only interested in this one issue and not caring one iota about the other rights granted us in the Constitution. What good does the right to bear or carry give a young child, if he can't have the right to be free from a drug environment. How can he protect himself from others that would be under the influence, should the legalization of drugs be gained in this country.Yeh, I know the argument, if it's easier to get, it will reduce dependency/addiction, I say what nonsense, look at the study's on tabacco addiction among our youth today.Recent court decisions have made it impossible for municipalities or other government entities to sue claiming damages by lawfully manufactured products, I would argue this includes the tabacco companies, so long as they advertise the truth "This product has been found to be dangerous to your health" In these last elections our present president was elected because, the libertarions, and green peace parties split the democratic vote. In '92 slick willy took office because the libertarian party split the republican vote amongst Perot and Bush. This is my point, the libertarian party does not have any solutions to problems that face us today, we haven't lost the war on drugs in this country, because the laws concerning the illegal importation and use of drugs have not been really enforced, no demand would solve the problem; the death penalty is ineffective, because of the system allowing anything and everything to be appealed; it's been off/on depending which state you reside in; providing abortions hasn't prevented any unwanted pregnancies, as a matter of fact a sound argument could be made for encouraging more sexual activity among the unmarried youth because of how easy it is to get one.For someone to cave in, after saying I'm anti- this or anti- whatever and go against their own conscience, just to vote for someone that plays his cards at an opportune time claiming to have a sincere concern about peoples rights, without asking more questions of him, somehow doesn't reflect a careful, calculated, intelligent, considerate excersize in this solem right of casting one's vote.I used, the drug issue, in my previous post, as an example of whats wrong with this parties agenda. It's not a secret, and you can scoff at it if you want, but it's a well known fact that drunks committing vehicular manslaughter, and great * harm never really pay the price, they do less time in minimum security prisons than those that get caught cheating on their tax returns, some just get work furlough (because of overcrowding in the jails) in place of some real hard time. If they had insurance, their insurance companies pay the damages, but it's never enough to replace the loss of limbs or loved ones.Like I said before, if this guy had done his thing before he decided to run for office I would have more respect for him.Real Patriots don't do things for self serving, publicity, personal gain. They don't wait for the water temperature to be just right and then make a press release before jumping in, to gain support for themselves or their agenda.Just one mans opinion.-
