My wife likes hers. Havent put 5K rounds thru it though. 32ACP, not 380.

Why buy her a .380 when you can get her a quality .38 revolver for a lot less?

    Just my onion.

I agree with Evil on this one,.380 is a seriously underpowered cartridge for self defense.Oh wait,is the Sig going to be a self defense sidearm? If not please disregard this post.

Nearly all small frame pistols don't get shot that much. I would bet that 99 out of 100 Sig P230's and P232's never have more than 300 rounds put through them in their entire lifetimes. The ones that get shot very much are those that LEO use as backup. They have to shoot them for qualification requirements, otherwise they wouldn't get fired but a few rounds.

If you "want" a P232, go ahead and buy one. Most guys think semi-autos are cool. P232's are good little guns. But if you're going to do lots of shooting, consider something else.

If you want personal protection for your wife and yourself, and you want a small frame gun easily concealed and comfortable to carry all day, go with a S&W Airweight Model 37 or 38 (or something equivalent). It's another gun that don't get shot all that much, but they are practicle and reliable.

Don't get hung up on caliber and "knockdown power" and all that stuff. Dead from a 38 special is the same as from a 44 mag.

That's my opinion...and worth about what you paid for it.

got a .38 spcl it is what she is using right now.as far as underpowered i read that in the strausburg tests a sig 232 shooting magsafe ammo had the same takedown times as most .40 jhp's and it was better than most 9mm jhp's.i bought one at the gunshow today gotta wait till tomorrow to shoot it.thanks for the input fellas

I'd like a link to those tests, if you have one available. It just doesn't sound right to me, 'course I could be wrong.

You've got to compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

Be interesting to see what the testing says after you use the same medium (Magsafe) in all the calibers being tested...

Buy the 232 if you want one for fun, but hold on to that .38 for your self defense needs.

    I'd rather carry a .22 LR revolver than a SIG P232 in .380....

EVIL IT WAS THE MAY 2002 ISSUE OF HANDGUNS MAGAZINE.PAGE 46.I DINT QUOTE IT EXACTLY.THE MAGSAFE AMMO VELOCITY WAS 1315 F.P.S. IN A 60 GRAIN BULLET WHICH IS ABOUT 350FPS FASTER THAN MOST .380 AMMO AND IT PUT 230.3 FOOT POUNDS OF ENERGY INTO THE TARGET.IN BALLISTIC GELLATIN IT PENETRATES 9.25 INCHES.HOPE THAT TELLS YA WHAT YA NEEDED TO KNOW

This topic requires I get out the Kel-Tec soapbox and climb on! The P232 is bigger and heavier than the Kel-Tec P11 and holds fewer rounds of a much weaker cartridge. It also costs a lot more. The recoil of the blowback .380 SIG will be greater than the locked-breech P11.

I cannot imagine putting 5-6000 rounds through a P232, although I do not think there is any reason why the gun will not take it. The goat tests are the subject of quite a bit of controversy. As I understand it, the performance of the Mag-Safe ammunition on the street does not reflect the performance in the goat tests. I do not place the .380 lower than a .22LR and would always choose the .380 over the .22LR in a similar-sized gun.

In its size and power category, I choose the P11 over any other firearm available at any price. "Big little guns" like the P232, Guardian, Tomcat, etc. do not appeal to me. Guns in weaker chamberings should at least be small and light.

If .380 power is all you want, get a gun that is sized for it, such as the Colt Pony Pocketlite. It is a locked-breech and weights only 12.5 ounces empty. If I were going to carry a gun as big and heavy as a P11, I would want at least 9x19 power, and 11 rounds of it.

YEAH JUDGE I KNOW.I LOOKED AT A KEL-TEC WHEN I BOUGHT MY PT111.THE TAURUS HAD A MUCH BETTER TRIGGER THAN THE KEL-TEC,WHICH IS WHY I BOUGHT IT BUT IT STILL HAD TOO MUCH TRIGGER FOR MY WIFE AND I WENT WITH A .380 SO SHE WOULD PRACTICE MORE.THE COMPACT 9MM TAURUS HAD A HORRIFIC RECOIL,I MAY BE WRONG BUT I DONT THINK THE KEL-TEC OR EVEN A BABY GLOCK WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER.I GOT A .380 SO SHE WOULD SHHOT IT MORE AND BEING PROFICIENT TO ME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN POWER I GUESS CAUSE IF SHE AINTR HITTIN WHAT SHE IS AIMIN AT IT COULD BE A .44 MAG AND IT WOULDNT MAKE NO DIFFERENCE.MY REASONING MAY BE FLAWED BUT THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT HER THE GUN I DID

Your reasoning is sound, Sub. Thanks for the link too!

As to my statement about the .22 versus the .380, is was a little tongue-in-cheek, but not much.

If you're looking at the P232-sized autos, you may want to check out some of the other pistols in that same size that are chambered in better cartridges.

I recently picked up an FEG PA63 chambered in 9mm Makarov. It's a (Hungarian?) clone of the Walther PPK.

I believe there are several up for auction here on GunBroker for a reasonable price.

I've put a fair number of rounds through mine and I'm happy. While it could stand a few improvements (like cutting the DA trigger pull down to 3-4 pounds instead of 150!), it's the only $100-ish pistol I'd trust my life to. I pack it around quite a bit when I'm wearing a tank top and shorts and the 1911 is just a tad too big to conceal.

Check them out: they're worth the greenbacks.
