I have about 4 packs left out of 2 cartons that I bought about 2-1/2 weeks ago and I am going for it. Robsguns made a inspiring post about the time I bought my last 2 cartons. It got me to thinking about my grandchildren that I love dearly and I am going for it probably by the time Memorial Weekend if over with I will start on being a non-smoker. Plan on Praying and using a little Nicoderm for a while! Best Wishes and lets try to keep each other inspired....We need to give updates from time to time to help keep us from slipping. OTO Now if I quit smoking the only vice that I will have is ADVICE!!!!!HA! OTO

I guaged how well I was doing by how soon after I woke up did I start thinking about cigarettes. First week I immediately thought of cigarettes after waking up.
It took me 2 months before I stopped thinking about them(though during thaose 2 mos, there were times I did not think about cigarettes at all)

Gentlemen, let me offer some advice from someone who has been a non-smoker for over 9 years now. Get some lifesavers, gum, or my favorite,...sunflower seeds. These things will help greatly in the oral fixation department, keeps your mind and mouth busy. Just a thought.

    k.stan:

Think about this. Who is in control of your body, you or a cigarette?

If you admit it's that little white stinky package, you are a waste of good skin. And if you can live with that you deserve what you have in store for you. Your demise will be the up side.

The down side is the people who love you and look to you for support. You will have failed them also. That can't be right.

I pondered that for about a week before I got disgusted enough with myself to just quit. That was 25 years ago.

    Clouder..

3 months and 12 days so far...

I still want a cigarette at least once per day, but it has gotten a lot easier.

I agree, get something like the sunflower seeds. I am chewing that Dentyne Ice gum, it works great.

    Good luck!!!

p.s. I feel A LOT better, I can breathe and smell again!!!

Great! You are over the first hurdle - the physical addiction. Now, you only have to fight the psychological ones you've built up over the years. Wicked tough, but one thing that helped me is doing the AA thing - one day (or hour) at a time, just telling myself I could have one tomorrow if I just had to, but for now, to tough it out. After 17 months, those times aren't coming but once a week or so. Likely we will never be over them, but we & our intellects will be in charge & able to resist. Keep going, guy!!!

Keep it up guys. I quit in 1969 after 17 years. Just remember, the cells you killed by smoking are gone forever. I killed too damn many and I'm paying for it now. Kill as few as you can. Anybody out there who still smokes, PLEASE STOP.

Been since February for me. I have zero desire to smoke these days.

    Wanna know what finally worked?

Wanna know the "secret" to quitting smoking?

    Pray.

Yup. I finally stopped trying all the crackpot chewing gums and patches. I went straight to the man for my strength.

I got down on my knees in the living room with my wife and asked God for the strength to beat my addiction.

    He answered.

Give it a sincere try. Don't be bashful. Get the family involved. Make an event of it.

    Hope that helps.
