American Heroes

It's being reported on CNN that the passengers on the Newark to San Francisco flight that crashed in Pennsylvania may have learned of the first plane that was crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center and realizing that they were being taken on a ride to the same kind of end, voted to attack and overcome the hijackers and that may very well be why that plane crashed short of any vital target, in the corn field in Pennsylvania. If this is borne out to be true, then those passengers of that flight are some of the greatest heroes in American history!

Opentop....It is stirring to think about and it may just have happened that way. I'd like to think that a group of Americans would do that without hesitation just because we feel that way about our country. Time may in fact give us an indication of what happened on that flight. Beach

I suspected as early as the morning of the attacks that the passengers or crew of the last plane might have thwarted the hijackers.Thomas Burnett Jr. called his wife and told her they had been hijacked, and asked her to call authorities. In a second call, she told him of the other attacks. He told her he loved her, and that he and two others were going to do something about it. She told him to sit down and not draw attention to himself, and he told her "no".Jeremy Glick made a similar call to his wife. He told her he loved her, and that he expected to die, but that he and some other were going to kick some * first. They did not die in vain.As I type this post the tears are begining to flow. I have not cried over this horror until now, but now I can't hold back the tears.God Bless these heroes and all who helped them. God help their families and loved ones.Let their actions be remembered by us all. And let their lesson not be lost. If you are hijacked, you must realize that the hijackers mean to kill you and as many others as they can. Better to die fighting the bastards than to just be murdered.redcedars

So it is confirmed then. That is awesome! I am more proud than ever to be an American (and I was always proud to be an American). The self sacrifice demonstrated by those passengers and by the New York City Fire Dept. and Police (some 300 or more of whom died trying to evacuate the World Trade Center), is spectacular beyond any words I can type. I always knew that when it comes right down to it, Americans will rise to any challenge and overcome but the image I get in my mind of airline passengers deciding and then acting to thwart hijackers, realizing that it would more than likely cause their deaths, fills me with a sense of pride unlike any I've ever felt before. God Bless them and God Bless America!

CNN is reporting that Jeremy Glick was flying with his 2 month old child, Emerson. It's an heroic act for a man to sacrifice his life for others, but for a parent to take their own childs life to achieve this is truly noble.I don't know the names of all these men, but they are examples of our greatest strength as a nation. Our American spirit will not be broken.

Just the FACTS please. Wait on the medals until Black Boxes prove what happened or didn't happen. Why did they waste so much time calling everyone in their directories instead of doing something, anything right away?

Tell me that in a situation like that, that you'd be able to make quick, "logical" decisions, especially where life and death are concerned.

Open, some folks are just so kewl they wouldn't take 30 seconds to call their wives to say goodbye when they know they're going to die. And it's obvious that unlike his idol Slick, brad *did* inhale - rather a large amount, in fact . . . or he's a troll . . . or both. Brad, go cower under the bed w/ Jimmy Carter; to put it in the most diplomatic terms, your snide BS is inappropriate.

I think it says it all that all earlier planes hit there targets but this plane did not. These people are definatly heros. Brad111 would you have that kind of courage?

So what if they called loved ones before dying. I know I would have wanted to - who wouldn't? They still took action before the plane reached it's target - or anywhere were it'd have done damage to population - and that's the point.

I'd give everything I own for a picture of them stomping the hell out of those murdering scumbags.

Just the FACTS please. Wait to cheer until the Black Box tells us what happened. If true then I'll cheer, as news groups have put so much fiction out in two days you can't believe anything right now.

Brad, you're way out of line on this one. I'd knock it off.

Brad, I agree with mlincoln, you are way out of line, as I have made clear is my opinion in other posts. However, I disagree with him about "knocking it off". I strongly urge you to go to the local town square or similar location (the local American Legion post or VFW leap to mind) and start spouting. I have a hunch your fellow Americans will have a few "facts" for you.Let us know how it works out. redcedars[This message has been edited by redcedars (edited 09-14-2001).]

It makes sense to make a call to a loved one because at a time when you know you will probably die anyway those closest to you are who you think about. That loved one can then use their phone to make other important calls to let Feds know. When those calls were made they found out about the other planes and knew they had nothing to lose. That is what reinforced their plans and let them know that they were doing the right thing. Of course Bradley111 wants to think that those men sat in the corner shaking like cowards.
