How to Record From Camcorder to PC

How is everybody? I need to record a small video clip from my analog camcorder into a digital format. I'm pretty sure none of my puters have a port to do this with. Does anybody have any suggestions? Can I record from the camcorder to a digital camera that has video record and then load to my PC? Any advice is appreciated.

You can play the video on your tv, and record it with a webcam. I just tried it, and it works ok. I'm sure I could get the picture better if I tried. XP has windows movie maker. My webcam is listed. I don't have my tv card installed to check if a camcorder would work with this windows software.

You need a Digital Photo Maker companys name is Dazzle.I have one but have never learned how to use it properly.Try one of the Computer stores.I'll try sending a picture of the box to your e-mail address.

You can find a cheap TV tuner card with an analog input port. Pinnacle PCTV makes a very nice solution to your problem for about $75 or less at Best Buy. Not only will it let you watch TV on your computer, you can input analog from your camcorder (using VCR mode) or an actual VCR player using RCA jacks or the cable antenna jack, etc. Very handy item to have. I use it for uploading analog Hi-8, and use my IEEE firewire cable for digital cam uploads. Dazzle works fine too, but is more expensive, and an external unit, whereas this can be installed in a card slot like a modem. If you have a lot to do, invest in Dazzle; if you need a cheap occasional solution, try the Pinnacle PCTV card.

Sorry, I forgot there are a couple of models -- but then I got my Pinnacle from the half-off bin for $35.

All you need is a video capture/encoding card to put in. Load up the drivers and run your RCA cables to it. You are going to want to download a program like Real Media Networks so you can encode the video. Its pretty easy. You should be able to get a video capture/ecoding card used from almost any computer shop for like $15.00. Its pretty easy.

If you will blame gun makers for every shooting then blame car maker for every car accident.

I use an ATI All In Wonder 128 Pro video card and Adobe Premier and a couple other Microsoft programs for editing. I make alot of my own music videos with tape I made in the truck.

The other direct answer to your question is, yes, if a digital camera has a line input for picture and sound, you could conceivably record your analog footage to digital footage.

Not all cameras will have this line in capability. Since all analog camcorders have RCA jack outputs to record to a VCR, a cheap tuner card for your computer is still your best bet outside of a more commercial product like Dazzle. A TV tuner card with an RCA input jack (and perhaps also an S-video input jack for Hi-8) will install just like an internal modem, in one of your spare slots.

There are some Sony cameras that have an analog input, however. I was going to buy one to input my analog video; then I researched Dazzle. I found the Pinnacle card purely by accident, and at half off I couldn't resist the price. It has worked well. As a side note, Pinnacle's deluxe version even comes with a remote, so it can turn your PC into a cable TV; if someone has a kid going off to college, you can combine PC and TV in one box.
