HELP....Have Bushy AR15 lower, need upper!!!

Let me begin this by explaining that I live in Kalifornia. Before the ban on evil assalt weapons here I had enough foresight to invest in a post-ban Bushmaster AR15 upper. I am just now getting around to purchasing an upper and I am confused about which to buy. I would like to have a "classic" looking AR carbine for my first upper so I can finally take to the range. I must admit though that I am more concerned about accuracy. I would like to see at least 1 MOA. (with the right optics)I have been to Bushmaster's website, www.bushmaster.com and I was considering the post-ban A2 16" carbine with a crowned barrel, no break. This upper has a chrome lined barrel which should last me quite a while and it looks like a "classic" carbine. However, at last Saturday's Ventura Gun Show I met a charming woman who worked for a company called American Spirit Arms, www.gunkits.com They make some really attractive uppers that appear to be built for accuracy. The woman said that ASA's recievers are made at the same facility where Bushys are forged using the same machines. I could choose the option of a standard A2 upper reciever with a Harris Custom 16" stainless bull barrel. My question is do any of you know if American Spirit Arms is the quality equivalent of a Bushmaster? What are the pros and cons of ASA's stainless bull barrel v.s. Bushmaster's steel chrome lined one. Keep in mind my desire for accuracy.Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks sxsman. I checked with ar115.com but I could not find any info. Their American Spirit Arms forum did not have any current posts and they had already purged the old posts. I will join their forum and post my question there. Thanks again for your response. If Nunn reads moderates this post, I am a new member and at risk of beating a dead horse, I agree about your opinon of Pit Bulls. I have worked in Animal Control for 3 years now and I have never been bitten by one. I have been bitten by other "non-aggressive" breeds.

A rifle is either capable of 1 minute of accuracy or it is not. Optics really have very little to do with inherent accuracy of a weapon. It is the rifle and the "buddits" it likes. Now having said that, I believe one should get the best optics one can afford. Both Leupold (VariX III) and Nikon (Monarch) make affordable scopes that are good. Believe it or not the mounting of the scope is much more important than the scope itself, especially when it comes to accuracy / precision of subsequent shots. Lastly, if you are not an armorer/gunsmith I would not advise assembling a kit/parts upper. Instead get one that is factory assembled that has been already head spaced correctly. This is not a job for a newbie to attempt, the consequencies coud be disasterous.Good luck, Boomer

Thank you BOOMERANG for your response. I am trying to buy a complete upper. I don't intend to buy a reciever and barrel which need assembly. I just wanted to know if the American Spirit Arms product was high quality like Bushmaster. Further I wanted to know if the ASA's 1" diameter Stainless Bull barrel is more accurate than Bushmaster's Steel Chrome lined one?Thank you CPERMD for your comments. Can I ask why you are selling the Bushmaster upper? How much are you asking?[This message has been edited by hensel (edited 11-15-2001).]
