five cent e-mails

I recall reading a while back of how much of a stink the postal service was raising about the amount of revenue they where losing as a result of people not sending as many letters any more.If my memory serves me correctly it was in excess of $20,000,000 annually. I got something the other day, ironically enough in an e-mail, about how they ( the postal service) are in congress right now trying to get a bill passed that would allow them to put a charge of 5 cents on every sent e-mail. Now I know we have to pay an ISP for allowing us to connect through them, but isn't the WEB essentially a free service?

This is an old and untrue internet rumor that seems never to die.

One thing they need to consider if they ever really do soemthing along these lines: email also generates revenue for them. I know I spend a heck of a lot more than I used too for shipping since I am doing business on the internet. And the bulk of my shipping is Priority Mail so they are getting the benefit out of it.

I realize that this is a myth, but if the USPS really was worried about losing revenue to e-mails, they should just become an ISP. It just might make them more money.I never thought about the shipping angle. I'll bet they are doing just fine with internet shopping being so popular

If anyone is concerned about not getting credit for the 5 cent e-mails, just email your nickel payments to me. Be sure to count all the "SPAM" e-mail before you delete them! Counts must be ABSOLUTELY accurate to insure proper credit..........Hahahahahaha!!!!
