Latest scoop on Harrisburg show

OK...After slaving over a hot telephone for hours this morning......Talked to a very nice lady who was very patient with me and answered all my questions. Here it is....1) Show is being held in the Main Hall. There'll be a "Gun Show" sign over the door. There are 3 other shows there that weekend.2) Parking is off site. $5. Shuttles run every 15mins. If you buy something that's too heavy or bulky to lug on the shuttle, you can get a "temporary parking pass" that will allow you to drive up to the building to pick up your stuff.3) Admission is $6. NO DISCOUNTS. Their usual fee is $7, but due to the parking fee they've reduced it by $1 to try to alleviate some of the total cost.4) 1200 tables5) She said that the NRA will have a booth. That might be a good place to meet. They're usually easy to find. She said she's received a lot of e-mail from people who won't come because of the parking fee. Can't really understand that reasoning.Anyway, that's the latest.Mudge the researcher WAHOO!..glad to see so many of youse gonna' be there!

Again, a good point and a decent idea. I drive a full size Dodge Ram Conversion Van ... roomy, tv, vcr, remote ... how far away did you want to park?

M.Opaliski, i think between the two of us we can save a bunch of money on parking fee's. Just convince the others to go along with it and we can have a good 'ol time. Any body out there have about $20,000 I can borrow till after the show?

Hey, I like the carpool Idea too...will have my aged father with me, but he's kinda fun...We will be driving a plymouth mini van, with extra room for 4-5, I'd be happy to help out...or I wouldn't mind hopping in with someone elce either..

The carpool idea sounds good to me too, BUT..we'd have to work out the logistics of where the gathering point would be and what time to be there. I must admit, I'm not too familiar with the area surrounding the Farm Show complex so somebody who is might want to give us some ideas on the local terrain. You know,"recon", "pathfinder", That sort of thing.I'm not trying to throw up roadblocks here. Just playing devil's advocate. ps. Travelor....you might want to watch those "aged" references. We've got some "seasoned citizens" on this forum. Mudge the prepared

Mudge, my dad is 77 yrs young...he has Alziemers Disease, and sometimes acts like a five year old. He lives with me, cause I don't think that he can take care of himself, and I don't want to see him in a nursing home. He likes to stir up trouble, as it gives him great pleasure...for example, he will rile up a nest of yellow jackets, just so he can have something to hold a vendetta against....will not give up till every last one is destroyed. Every sting just serves to set his resolve! He isn't so far gone to be a danger to anyone..though, sometimes he is quite sharp with the wit. Just very forgetful of current events.

ok mr mudge,,the farm show complex is located directly off of interstate 81 around the 69 mile marker.they redid the exits in PA and I'm pretty sure exit 23 is now exit 69,either way the old numbers are still on the signs. Any how rt 322 runs past the complex and is called cameron street east of 81. all you need to do to get to the building is hop off of 81 and go east on cameron street. there are no mountains or canyons on that side of the state,,it's flat like IL, the truckstop I mentioned is 8 miles west of 81 on 322, easy to find and easy to get to. 322 is a 4lane highway for the most part. when you cross the river while heading west it is still 4 lane but no exits, you turn directly off of 322 into the parking lot, we can all meet there and leave excess vehicles there to save parking money. Let me know what way you will be coming from and I'll guide you right in. Hey like I said I'm a trucker and I'll never get yuou lost! And don't forget we truckers are extremely educated and never lie.

A word about offsite parking at the Harrisburg farm/home center.Across from the main lot is a school of some kind... it has some parking and generally is a decent place to leave a vehicle, but it will fill up fast. The other 'offsite' parking for the farm show complex can have your vehicle left in some interesting places. I suggest not advertising that you have valuable stuff in your vehicle.Handicap parking..... The farm show people haven't a clue what that means. Generally it's not TOO bad when their lot is clear, but they can be downright STUPID about it at times. Last time we were there was an RV show... they had handicapped parked FURTHER away than standard parking and forced them to walk/wheel around a large sales area just to access the show, at least 100 yards of walking. All that aside, they also have a place to eat inside that has decent food, and it only costs 2X what it's worth, not bad for a place like that.

What time does the show start? When do the doors/gates open? If we can hit that school lot that would be best, but a close as you suggest it is I'm betting we wouldn't all make it in, someone ia always late. Now, truckstop ... we will be crossing the river and heading 8 miles away from the show just to park? Is this what everyone want to do? I have no problem with it because I'll be carrying a few of you back in the Van ... turn that tv down!I'll need to pull out of Delware about 4-5 hours ahead of start time so I need to know when it starts.Looking forward to this trip ...

After reading all these posts, I'm now kinda' leaning toward finding my own parking spot and meeting inside the hall. That would also allow people to leave when they're ready without having to wait for a ride back to their car. I also don't feel like standing around in their off-site parking lot waiting for the next bus. Could be raining, snowing, or otherwise miserable weather. I'm big intocreature comforts. Hell, to me, "roughing it" is a motel without a TV remote.Travelor.....BTDT. My father also had alzheimers. We had to put him in a home because he became a danger to himself and my mother. You're lucky to be able to care for your dad. Mudge the elder

Ok, count me in. I am leaning toward meeting inside, also. Do they mind if I bring a few "toys"? I usually get strange looks just walking into gun shows from the parking lot with a few rifles, how will people react to me riding a shuttle with them from the parking area?
