i heard today that it is ok if a cop owns something that has LE stamped for him to sell it to a civilian. is this true and can anyone add any color to what would happen if you acquired a gun that had LE on it an you weren't an officer.mdcac

I need to ask a question. First I DO NOT want to offend any leo's on gb, I respect the job. Why are leo's placed on a higher platform than a regular fellow? What's the diff between 1 15 round mag and 3 5 round mags? Why can law enforcement have full autos but we citizens have to go the god him self to get one and then it's certain ones? whats the diff between a pre '86 m16 and a new one? the both do the same thing don't they? and the list can go on and on, I just want to know what makes them better then us when it comes to neat toys?

It's the liberal elites trying to buy off cops by so graciously allowing them to step up to the platform of "elitism". If they give the cops their toys, then the cops are more likely to take their position on gun control (only cops should have guns). It starts with the full auto, then it moves to the semi-auto. Pretty soon, we won't even be allowed to have single-shots. Then it will be black powder. That is the liberal elitist plan. The liberals are always talking about "look at how it worked for this country or that country". The fact is, it hasn't worked for any country. I'll play their game. Just take a look at Switzerland!Quite frankly, the cops can have their Class III weapons and keep them IMHO. I've gotten plenty of quality time with them in the military and I could care less whether or not I own one.

Someone above asked some questions: "Why can law enforcement have full autos but we citizens have to ......to get one and then it's certain ones?"The police officers I know have to go through the identical procedures the rest of us do to "personally" own a class III firearm. I know of none who get preferrential treatment. If you are referring to the full auto guns they carry on duty, those guns belong to the agencies, not the individual officers."I just want to know what makes them better then us when it comes to neat toys?"Officers of the law are no better than any of the rest of us...in fact they are usually held to higher standards because of their professions. And with the reference to "neat toys," firearms, including the full auto versions, are not toys to a cop, their tools to do their jobs with. I know of none who see them any other way.

I would like you to explain that to the cheif of police here in our town. He has a full auto m14 in HIS possesion, at his home. It is registered to the police department, but it is his gun in his possesion. The gun is illegal for an ordinary citizen to own, but he has it, it is his.he can sell it whenever he wants to and ask what he wants for it as long as it goes to a cop. Now I wont get into detail about this BUT I have spoken with the ATF about this and as long as he is employed by the department it is LEGAL!!! Why is it legal? Because he has taken an ACT 123 cetification. As long as he is a cop it is his gun! Now tell me that leo's don't get special treatment. Like I said I respect the job and the people performing the job, but as a personal freind to some of the cops in this town I see quite a few "perks" to the job that makes me wonder.

Jumped through the hoops for almost 6 months before I finally got the "LEO" signature on my class III. And then it all boiled down to who I knew, and the whole thing had nothing to do with the laws in the area that I live in. That signature is pure politics. The person that signed mine was getting out of the ratrace.
