I'm in college here in Colorado. I turned 18 since I've been here and went to buy a shotgun the other day but couldn't because I'm from california! This is an outrage, I can't believe that california can control what I buy out of state! Any help here? Thanks guys.-Nate

Seems the Cali people should raise their arms and start fighting back against the nonsense they already let happen. This is going to happen everywhere people don't fight back- Use paper and pen to write your Reps. and congress constantly to voice your opinions on bills/laws that effect you and your rights...Demand to be heard!

CannonBallI'm here in Colorado as well. What gun store/shop did you go to? I'm pretty sure you can by long-guns with an out of state License. If you tried to get that shotgun from a smaller-end dealer or one of these sports shops like G.B. they may have a store policy against selling to out of state resident.By the way, where in CO are you?

Hey Cowboy, That just made me think of something! Is it legal to participate in a private party transfer if both parties don't reside in the same state?I buy PPT whenever I can. If I can get it cheaper going through NICS or pay a little more for a PPT, I still do the private transfer. What about you guys?

I'm in boulder, so well there aren't too many gun shops around and my jeep's been broken so I can only go where the bus runs. I went to a Gart bros. or something like that I forget the name. I'm gonna get a license and register my car here then I should be good but I'm looking for private sale now. Thanks a ton guys.-Nate

Nate, An unlicensed individual (I think that is what this thread is calling a private party.) can't legally transfer a gun to another unlicensed individual unless they are residents of the same. This situation is covered in section B, page 135, of the Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide.Every ffl dealer is provided a copy of this book. I suggest you drop by ffl dealer's and ask to read it for yourself.

The peoples republic of Boulder huh? Not suprising that there are not that many gun shops there. Try Green mountain guns in Denver. (s/we denver around wads and jewell) Great shop nice folks good selection.
If guns cause crime, all mine are defective.

CannonBall,I've never shopped for a gun in Boulder, but I think you'll have better luck in the Denver Metro Area. Two if the best places in town are Dave's Guns and Dean' Firearms. Dave's has probably the widest section in town but I don't care so much for their prices. The place you went to was it at Flatirons mall? I know they have a Galyans sporting goods store there. Never shopped there though. If you get your jeep fixed definitely cruse down to Denver, I'm sure you can find a better deal.Just wanted to know, do you live on campus? If so, where will you store this firearm? Do you know if the campus PD stores of allows guns?

If you can show the dealer proof of residency for 90 days by way of any paperwork such as rent receipts, paycheck stubs, utility bills, etc., you ought to be able to buy a longgun as a resident of that state.

There are at least two gun stores in Boulder I'm aware of. I think they are both on the East side of town, off of Arapahoe. If you live on campus, though, you'll have to store your guns someplace else. Also, if you have a passport or other identity documents you can get a CO non-driver ID for less than $5 at the drivers license office.Go Buffs! Martin(CU Boulder, class of 2000).PS: If your political opinions are anything like the majority of the people on this board, you're going to find yourself very much in the minority in the Democratic People's Republic of Boulder, where pets don't have "owners", they have "guardians". If you ever get tired of it and yearn to breathe free air, just come on up to Wyoming![This message has been edited by martinjmpr (edited 12-14-2001).]

Guys guys guys....I'm from california, I'm right at home here, actually this place isn't even as bad as it was back in cali. I can keep the gun in my car I think from what I understand or keep it at the campus PD and access it 24 hours a day! Thanks for all your help, also I'm always looking for a deal on a used gun!-Nate

Hmmm...I guess an "oops" on my behalf is in order. What if there are two military personnel stationed together in the same state but legal residents of their home states. Can they sell between eachother according to the USC?

idsman75,Federal regulations state that, when purchasing firearms, military personnel are considered residents of the state in which they are stationed. No, you can't give the gun to your Mom unless it goes through a dealer in her state.
