K Mart-Ignorance in Retailing!!

How can Wal-Mart be so successful and K Mart so ignorant?Haven't they been around long enough to see what worked at Wal-Mart and what wasn't working for them?Wouldn't Corporate management try to hire personnel from Wal-Mart to show them how to run a business properly?Due to there "Rosie" episode, I and millions of other people stopped shopping at K Mart.It isn't just the gun owners that belong to the "NRA" or post on GunBroker, but millions of gun owners who they irritated and that in turn stopped doing business with them.I myself know of two Pastors, 4 doctors, 1 nurse and numerous other "Professionals" that quit doing business at K Mart because of their stand on firearms.I myself do shop at Wal-Mart, but they scare me, too. Breaking the competition may put them in a position to not be so customer friendly and price competitive.I see empty stores such as: Builders Square, Payless Cashway, Shopco-no longer on the tax rolls and becoming an eyesore in some communities.I don't know the answer, but you would think corporate America would take notice.SUPPORT THE NRA[This message has been edited by Spring Creek (edited 01-15-2002).]

I for one did not boycott K-mart. I don't like the place and never shopped there even before Rosie. Don't much like Walmart either.

I have boycotted K mart. But Meijer, now there's a store. All the ammo is out on the shelf, not behind a glass door (exception is pistol ammo) and you can pick what you want and then check out up front.

I started the post, and I'm sorry for deleting it. I inadvertedly checked the box that said "do you want to be notified by e-mail of replies" or to that effect. I was deluged with e-mail 's , and tried to edit it to stop, but it cannot be edtied that way (?). So I deleted the whole thing. As for the effect of the gun owners on K-Mart's demise, IF WE DIDN'T DO IT, WE DAMN WELL HELPED!!!!!!!

Anybody own shares in this business?Don't wait for the president to sound the alarm, sell your stock, before they go the way of other ex marts. [This message has been edited by turbo (edited 01-15-2002).]

There were a few that thought that the gun owner boycott of K-Mart had nothing to do with their problems. I know a lot of people who didn't shop there because of it. How about you? Especially during the Holiday Season. Let's count up a few bucks not spent! Then we'll see if we made any difference.

The Rosie thing made a big spalsh, here and other boards, anyone that would say the boycott didn't affect there earnings in 01, is dreaming. On the other hand if they acknowledged it, PRUDENT investors would be looking for the door know.Either way there are always those as I stated before, who in the end ask; "What happened",after the bus has come and gone.

Man, don't you folks follow the financial pages?K-mart is near belly up... Moodies place them at just about junk bond status. The condition of the stores in this areais terrible. Physical plants falling apart, inventory falling, few employees on duty.

Arthur,That's what I was referring to when I started the post, and I think others were alluding to.As it was announced this morning by the major networks, that Chapter 11 Bankruptcy by K Mart, may be a last ditch effort to survive.

They built a new store here, in a better local than Wallyworld, should have been able to keep it's head above water.Didn't allow the wife to shop there. Told all our relatives... no presents to us from k-mart,because of their anti-gun position. Most asked why. Got a lot of Christmas presents, none from kmart.
