Have sold 3 guns in my lifetime. Bought one of those back after a yearlong search. Finally found it under the driver's seat in a car in Chicago. Box and paperwork still intact.I live in Florida Have been thinking about chasing down #2, but I need some information about what it is currently worth. Remington-Rand model of 1911. Was in good shape, when I sold it. Reason I "parted" with it was it was marked "U.S. property"Later found out it was given to the guy by his C.O. at retirement, mid 1950's, and when he passed away, it went to my brother, just days before he was convicted (read "railroaded") on his first trip to a courthouse, on a felony. I had pocession of the guns due to space and did the transfer of them for him.The guns were in a locked cedar chest, but I had a list of them, plus serial #'s. I wanted the 1911, but was not aware of the U.S. markings. After buying it, realized what it said, and promptly sold to a guy that said he didn't care.Wish I had done some research first, or asked GB if it was legal to own "U.S. property". Anybody have any idea what this gun is worth on today's market? Thanks, sandman2234Don't have gun, will travel, and looking for it

The reason I posted the source is because I don't want everyone jumping all over me on the price. BB is NOT known for it's accuracy on price. Use it as a guide.

Regardless of what the Blue Book shows, one in 100% condition will bring $950-$1,000 around here. I have seen one in 99% bring $900.

And speaking of stupidity: A guy I worked with showed me a WWI vintage US PROPERTY marked 1911 that his father had ground all the markings and finish off with a carbide grinding wheel. It started out as a 98% piece. After he was finished, it was virtually worthless. I almost cried.

I own a 1911 Remington Rand that was given to me by a family member back in the sixtes. Somone made a very feeble attempt to remove the serial number. All they did was mess up the parkerizing. The serial number is still very readable. Otherwise it is in very good condition with the original magazine. It has crossed navy cannons and white grips. Obiviously a navy officers weapon. I have received several offers for it as high as 800.00.-Charlie

Yes, definitely will pay for this mistake. I noticed a couple on the "other" auction site that are priced as you have all stated. My budget may not allow me to spend quite that much, but I did do some horse-trading with the guy when I sold it, so maybe I can do some to get it back. I don't usually regret getting rid of "stuff", just guns. Thanks to all, wish me luck. Sandman2234

For memento they are worth something but for utility its like the German P38 you can get an american copy for less than $380.00 thenwhy ? to take the bother ... I sold a now banned M14 cheap ...may be worth $$$now but it's intrinsic value, the stuff is worth $1 in hard steel and woodwhat makes it useful its its acuracy performance and reliability ,its collectible value will not save you in a combat situation.Go for reliability.....

My reasons for chasing down the 1911 are not what most people purchase guns for. Kind of like cars, that people once owned, now worth a lot of money. They always say "I wish I had never sold that..." Most of the guns I own, I bought either at a good deal or because I wanted one of that style or caliber.Any gun that I buy will someday go to my Daughter, upon my death. She knows how I feel about guns and understands that someday She may not be able to purchase them. She watched the hours and hours I spent jumping thru hoops to purchase the class III items that I have, and realizes that they will one day be Hers.Given to my Wife, they will become an instant firesale. Not because She dislikes guns, she just has no need for as many guns as I own.Should I pass b/4 my Daughter becomes of age, I would hope some of my friends would at least sit down and make sure that the guns She does sell bring a reasonable price.Have seen too many Widow's sell guns for too little because they didn't have any idea what they were worth. On my serial # list, I have the purchase price, and the current market value, or what I thought the gun was worth at the time I updated the list. Has been a year since I updated the list, so I guess I need to go over it.That list is the only idea my Wife has as to the value of a gun. And judging from what I sold the Remington-rand 1911 for, I would say it probably needs going over by a more knowledgeable person. Thanks, Sandman2234
