Best XPPro-compatible anti-virus software?

I've tried Norton Internet Security and their anti-virus stuff for years, but I really don't like the whole "subscription" thing they are doing now.
Any ideas? What works for you?
I may be re-installing service pack 2 in the future, so it has to work under that as well.

    I use Norton.
Every year I just uninstall it and clean out the registry then reinstall it.
Works just like a new install. Get another year of updates [:D]
Just never register it. If you do then the uninstall reinstall doesn't work [xx(]

Not that I have ever done this but, Nortons subscription file is easy to hack and change the expiration date.

I think that if you use an up to date Anti-virus program, not just updated DAT files, most of the anti-virus prgrams work well. On the subjext of Norton, if you use 2002 or older, you will need to download a patch file to run it on XP.

I use Norton on one computer and Mcafee on the other. The laptop uses Norton. What others' said about Norton is true[;)].

I also use TrendMicro.com online on all my computers once a week and also run Stinger to check for trojan horse programs

    Or...

Quit being so cheap and pay the small amount these folks ask for keeping your machine fairly safe. Mostly they offer a pretty good deal overall.

And if that doesn't fly... Trend Housecall every day, but it catches a virus after the fact and not before.

Nord, I find it amusing that a "security system" like Norton can be so easily hacked! What were they thinking?
Have you or anyone else here used Panda scan? How would you rate it?

The difference between catching a virus before it harms your system and allowing a easy hack of the registration date should give us some ideas about Norton's priorities.

Panda? I have no experience. McCaffee? Mostly a virus unto itself in my experience.
