It sucks getting old

Went out to "the barn " to eat. Nice place but it sucks getting old. Take out my fake tooth to eat. The other couple is telling about his new Bluetooth hearing aids. I quit eating, not when my stomach is full, but when my colen is full. If I eat another bite, I'll crap a log right there.

Might as well ask the waitress to put the left overs in colostomy bag.

It really sucks getting old.

Had a friend complain about the same thing, turns out it wasn't old age, it was his wife trying to poison him[B)][:o)]

And here I am fighting hard for the slim chance to get old.

    Mike

    You're still getting there.

I turned 50 the other day and then all of the sudden, I was 56!

    Perspective I guess...

I'm sixty-eight. Not old by today's standards. I look at those poor souls in nursing homes and reflect that cancer has its blessings. I won't be around to "enjoy" years of decline. I won't even have to worry about my retirement and whether funds will last for my lifetime seeing as I don't have much time left so I'm told.

Don't curse the fruits of having lived. A missing tooth, aching bones, and the many problems of age while still being at least moderately healthy? Consider yourself blessed. You don't wake up every day wondering if tomorrow will be your last.

Think of those who are going through hell just for the outside chance that they'll be blessed with added years or months or days. The infirmities of old age be damned. Mike and others here know of what I'm sharing. We'd give anything to be able to gripe about our infirmities at the age of eighty.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, friend. My pop is 74 and looks and acts like he is 34. He runs me in circles. I know he will live to be well into his 90's. He has no health problems. The only problem he has is, he only has one eye. Lost the other when he was 19. His good eye is almost shot at this point, but he never complains and keeps active. Doctors said he will be completely blind, by 78 to 80. He doesn't seem to let it bother him. I know one thing for sure, my mom and dad will live comfortably with me, until the day they die. I would never put either in a home. Oakie

As my 90 year old Dad says," Gettin' old ain't for sissies ". Other than CPOD he's in great shape. Drives everywhere and anywhere, eats anything and everything, and usually stops and has a couple in the evening. Still deer hunts with us, didn't tag one this year but shot a nice buck the year before.

    UEG,

Count your blessings and his. On the day your dad doesn't wake up be grateful for the wonderful life he enjoyed. I can't think of a better way to go than going to sleep while feeling well and never waking up.

A good friend and forum member here, lost his Dad a few years ago. He still worked with Dan on their farm, and never missed a day teaching his Sunday School class.
When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 96, and told he a had maybe 6 months to live, his response to the doc was, "Well thank God for that, I thought I was going to die from old age". [:)]
    He made it to 101.

I posted about my ice slip and 5 broken ribs..In Hospital for 4 days. While in they ran several tests, turns out I am in worse shape than I thought.
    Discharge Diagnoses:
    1.Rib fracture,traumatic
    2.Asbestos related pleural disease
    3.Interstatial lung disease
    4.Chronic obstructive lung disease
    5.Osteoarthritis
I guess I am going to the VA and file a claim.
Guess my four years in the USN, in the engine room of a Destroyer,,( The USS John A Bole DD 755)contributed to my lung disease..

I have never persued this avenue,,but, I think it may be time.

All this and at the tender age of (dare I say) 76..GOD that's Old.

Good for you Jim, and Happy Birthday!

Losing 70 lbs. is a great achievement and I would really like to know more about your diet!

I need to take off several pounds and was going to use the "duct tape" plan. Duct tape my mouth shut.[:o)]

Every day is Christmas and every nite is New Years Eve. Life is good.

Thank God for life. It does suck to get old. However it beats the alternative.

One thing that bothers my Dad, all his friends and buddies that he grew up with are gone. He is the last one. He comes into town for morning coffee, dinner, and afternoon coffee and 3-4 evenings a week to have a bump. He knows everyone and visits with everybody but he says it's not the same.Dave

There is a time and purpose for everything. Your dad is well aware of this. God bless him.
