I gotta wonder why this stuff is so cheap...you get what you pay for. Any laquer coating will gum up you chamber as it gets hot, and nearly impossible to cleen out when it hardens again...steel cases dammage your chamber, and throte, and where out your extracters...
keep lots of extra uppers for your ar..you can change often enough to keep the thing from over heating...what ever caliber fits the moment..~Secret Select Society of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

Traveler,Steal cases dammage your gun?First I have heard that one, and the laquor is 'nearly impossible' to clean out?I still have about 900 rounds of this stuff left, maybe I should shoot only about 20 rounds at a time.I did e-mail the Wolf people, and they said their "mil-spec" ammo has been tested, and no such buildup occures. Do you knoe if this is this phenomenon rifle specific? I wish to know as much as I can so I can use up the rest I have, then it may be that southaferican stuff from now on.

BS...The Ak was made to digest the eastern block steel cased ammo. All ammo wears on the extractors. Any ammo will gum up your gun if you don't clean it. The wolf ammo is a little dirty but its not going to kill your Ak.

I've been shooting Wolf ammo through my AK and haven't had one bit of a problem. And I don't always clean it the same day I take it out to the range - don't need to. No real excessive build up compared to the other ammo I've bought for it.

If your AK has problems caused by any ammunition...get rid of that firearm the next chance you get. I have a MAADI that shoots any brand of 7.62 with no problems...even tried spraying the action with (a lot) sand and the damn thing still shot great just as if it were clean!-smooth

Maybe I ought to turn to a communist weapon...I have previously determined to stick with AR-15 type arms for my defensive rifle (hence my signiture statement), I had purchased a 223 upper by Oly, and had continuos jam ups at the chamber...After contacting Oly, and refering to their web site, I found numorous statements about laquer coated rounds. Oly's warranty can be voided by use of it. I also found simmilar statements at AR-15 site...Also asked a dealer at a show who specializes in that type of arms, and he confirmed same...Yes the brass cased South African stuff is very good...P.S....I have a 7.62 upper, so based inquiries on 7.62 ammo, as brass 223 is very common, unlike 7.62.

Saxon,I'm retired! As I stated in my post I'm just pleased with how they conduct biz and of course the prices so I thought I would pass it along. If I find a problem with the ammo I'll be sure to post.

I ordered a case of Russian 7.62x39 HP and a case of Portguese .308 from Classic Arms on Monday. In calling several places about price, I found that those advertising $69.95 and $74.95 7.62x 39 ammo were either out-of-stock or said their last batch received was higher, thus they had to raise the price.$79 + shipping is still a good price. Remember when it went from $89 to $300?

Travelor,I've shot various types of Ar's, mainly bushies and colts. The Ars are much flimsier (No Disrespect) compared to the Aks. The AR will shoot groups that AKs can only dream of. However, the simplistic design of the AK means it can be dropped, kicked, smashed, thrown, or used for a hammer and it will still come function perfectly. If you need a firearm for shooting 300 yards and under, then you want an Ak. Despite what some ... people... have said, the Romanian Sars are great weapons and probably one of the best buys out there for the price. I have had my Sar going on 2 years, no how many times its jammed? None... Can't say that for my Bushie though... [This message has been edited by thesupermonkey (edited 11-29-2001).]
