How do you carry?

Down here in the south its to hot to wear nothing but shorts or jeans, So that don't leave much for concealment. I use a pocket holster with a 9mm double action. Question do any of you keep a round chambered in your pocket? Some times with jeans its a little tight drawing your gun and keep your finger away from the trigger.Seems to me this is safer way due to no safty. Need some input.

In the winter I wear a jacket and in the summer I don't tuck my shirt in. I just stick my P89 in the small of my back with no holster. Been carrying it this way since March '99.I have spare mags in my "goodie" bag in the truck.

In summer I use an Uncle Mike's soft holster and I either wear my shirt un-tucked or if the shirt is tucked-in I "blouse" my shirt over the pistol grip. In winter I wear a SideArmor holster under my vest or jacket. I always wear my pistol on my right side for a straight draw. I have a spare magazine that I keep in my bag.My biggest problem is that some of my clients are in "gun-free zones". So, I have to keep my pistol in my truck. I really hate doing that because I am always afraid that somebody is going to break in and steal it. Since Michigan changed it's CCW law in June 2001, though, it's against the law to take a firearm into a lot of places (like schools, restaraunts that serve alcohol, stadiums, etc). Oh well, I know nobody ever needs to defend themselves in those places concealedG36

I carry without a holster right now. I keep my baby tucked into the small of my back and to the right, kinda behind my right kidney. I'll buy a holster eventually, I just haven't decided what to go with. I keep a spare mag in that neat little pocket in your right hip. Seems that jeans manufacturers made that pocket just for a spare magazine!

What do you carry Evil? I can't fit my mags in there. (course their full size double stacks)Why get a holster? Seems its more to deal with and I've never had any problems with it coming loose.

Springfield Armory 1911 Compact. Shweet little piece. Picture a full-size 1911. Then shave off 1 icnh from the barrel. The shave about a half an inch off the grip. Then add night sights, adjustable trigger, and some other goodies that I can't think of right off the top of my head and you have the Springfield Compact. I guess since it's a 1911, the single stack mags are easier to slide into the small pocket, but it looks like you could easily fit a Beretta 92FS double stack mag in there. You're not buying your jeans in the kiddy section, are you? :-)

Sweet gun. I can't afford a SA, but I've been looking at Firestorm full size. I've got to have a 1911 style. There's another section?

Right now (cold weather) I have a custom made holster that was made so I can carry either hip or SOB. It's got a detachable loop set-up for SOB carry. Mrs. Mudge carries in a DeSantis Speed Scabbard. For warm weather, I have what looks like a camera bag that I carry on my hip and Mrs. Mudge uses a fanny pack, with a velcro closure, that she carries at her side. Both totally enclose the weapon.I'm sure most LEO's know what's in the warm weather carry packs but as long as they're concealed, it doesn't matter whether they know or not. We're complying with the letter of the law.Mudge the armedps. Never saw the need to carry extra mags. At "combat" ranges, if the "goblin(s)" are still standing....well, I don't know too many people that'll need much more convincing after a double tap to the chest with a .45.

Don Hume...in the pant leather...front waistband of pants works well for me. Extra mag, left rear pants pocket. Blouse shirt out overweapon, or if T-shirt, no prob. If wearing a jacket I just button, or zip a little and tuck it in my waistband outside of my shirt.Oh yeah, Ruger P-90 (.45) or Colt 1911 A1. Have new CZ 100 .40, at shop being tuned, if comfortable with the reliability when it comes home...will think about it as a carry gun....till/if that comfort factor is there...will stick to my .45's.....Hogue finger groove on P-90/tweaked what little there is to tweak or should I say tweaked AS much as poss, got comfortable with the rest! Could not make myself change the grips on 1911...that gun just wouldnt be the same to me, would look funny..Now the inside thats different..tweaked bout everything my gunsmith and I could think of..smooth...

Since I quit smoking [Sept. 2000] I've put on mucho weight. Therefore, I carry my Glock 21 or my Witness .45 in a fannie pack w/a spare mag. I've got my license , check book and a ball point pen in it, also. Hell, it's a purse to most people.Tideman

For normal use, I too use the waistband/behind the hip routine because Mr. Glock usually has to stay in the car. Those map pockets in the door work real well. The only time I really carry is in the woods where concealment is not really an issue, so I use a Fobus paddle holster. Works great considering it was only about $20.

I used to carry my P-85 in the small of my back, but it becomes so comfortable it sometimes slips out with me barely noticing when I sit down. Now I use a Galco SS-2 shoulder holster with a special rig to carry a 30 round mag along with the standard two 15 round mags. With carrying 75 rounds I don't even have to go to the range anymore. What does it matter if I miss half the time.

My G27 rides in a Don Hume RH black leather belt slide with thumb break to and from work and off duty. At work it rides in an Uncle Mikes soft body armor holster. It goes everywhere with me.

I'm a left hander, which really makes no difference unless we're talking about which side the shirt buttons are on or something, but the bottom line is I have a selection of holsters for the 2 or 3 guns I may want to carry for different situations or clothes. It's just a little harder to find them for a lefty.I usually buy a fairly high-riding leather belt holster with a forward cant, no bigger than necessary, which a loose bomber type jacket will cover. I'll buy a double mag holder in leather, also with belt loops, to balance on the opposite side. I don't wear these on the hip bone, but a little further back over the hip.I also buy a small-of-back holster in leather, which I know I'll get less use out of but I like them anyway. I don't tend to wear these dead center over my spine because they're just too uncomfortable. The ones I like best can be worn off-center a bit toward the strong side -- it's more comfortable sitting, driving, etc. I like compact guns. I currently have one of the smallest .40s and one of the smallest .45s on the market right now, and so I often have the choice of (large) pocket carry, which in the dead of winter around here is the most accessible when walking outdoors. I'm okay as long as my parka is jacket-style but in even a 3/4 coat it can be hell reaching anything on the body. In the summer I get a little use out of a couple of those stretchable belly bands. They can be worn high or low and adapted to lighter clothes, but they don't retain as well when you're active. I have one nylon shoulder rig that works when I just can't have anything riding on my belt. It too has a double-mag to balance on the opposite side. First sign of trouble with this is that I have had the thumb break come loose once and dump the gun. This is unacceptable and I won't be using it until I find better parts for this velcro attached piece of the rig. Some of these rigs provide a solid strap as an added retainer but I don't like 'em very well. If I ever have an extra hundred and a half maybe I'll look for a comfortable leather rig by Galco, but for now it's the nylon.I also went through a fanny pack phase, but people started identifying those * ones pretty regularly, and I only recently found a small brown one that doesn't scream "gun." So I have that option, but it's a zipper, not velcro open. It's fairly nice, and does have a holster velcro'd in -- not just a loose pocket. The belt on that thing should be stronger though. I expect it to wear out fast.
