Do the stars really prove anything?

cowboy62cowboy62 Member Posts: 70 ✭✭

Ok, let's be honest, this star thing we got going, does it
prove anything? All I can see it shows, is who runs their mouth the most.

It does nothing to show senority. I for instance have been a registered user at Gunbroker.com since before they had any firearms
listed for sale. My user number is something like #97.

I've been using and reading here, since before many with the rank of senior member, even had a puter to waste thier time on.

Instead of giving the rank of Senior Member, how about something like, Supreme Blowhard..... Supreme need to get a life....

You can choose to overlook me, I suffer from star envy.....

The number of star's are directly proportionate to the number of guns they don't have to clean and casing's that need reloaded.

In my case the stars are a direct reflection of just what a pain in the butt it is for me to try to go shooting, since I live on post. When I get my own place and have my own land, I guarantee that the posts I have when that happens dont grow by another 500 if this board exists till I'm dead. I would imagine there are a lot of people in my situation.

They only prove you have being posting like hell!

You need "new" Seniority Icons 1 year An eagle (You hunt and eat what you want )

2 years you are a rooster ( Top pecking order ) No longer hunt....

3 years you are a monkey (Nothing personal) You need to crack up a joke for not being bored .....

5 years You are a donkey (bored to death) no life and if someone counts your legs they always will sum 5....(no politicaly intended)

10 years you become an old Goat ,eagles will hunt you ,roosters will peck you , monkeys will pull your hair , and a donkey will eat you alive. (with political intent....)

I disagree. I think that the stars represent knowledge, wisdom, and importance. A poster who has many stars deserves a higher level of respect than those with less stars.
As I have stated earlier, I really think those with minimal stars should have to ask permission before posting a response to a thread started by those members with high ranking.
For example, if I, a member with a multitude of stars, a member who deserves respect and courtesy, start a post, anyone with lowly star status who wishes to respond to my post, should first ask permission.
"HONORABLE ADVANCED MEMBER SALZO, MAY I PLEASE RESPOND TO YOUR POST?"
"YES JUNIOR MEMBER YOU MAY, BUT PLEASE POST SOMETHING WORTHY."

I'm an old belonger too, with only a few stars, holding back my self-esteem,....I * about it a few times when they came out, calling them un-American elitist crap.
It put me off my feed for a long time, not posting, but, lurking only.
I know I got no clout to say how others should do or feel, but, as for myself, since spring arrived,....I got practically NO interest in sitting in front of this machine,...there is waaaaay too much other stuff I'm thinnin' myself over.
Stars.......elitist bull****, I've been thinkin' that when winter comes, I'll just relist and shitcan what I got,...join the underdog, unwashed, unelitist, common rabble.

Awww,....I'm just blatherin', ain't posted in months,...just tryin' to maybe get another "elitist crap" star.

It's not the stars that have meaning its the Post Counter.
The Post Counter is directly proportional to the amount of boredom and free time.

On the other side of the coin.
Worrying about how many stars someone has is strictly liberal thinking.
TJust give some thought to those that say stars are BS.
Now I really don't think they are necessary we did fine without them.
he liberal agenda wants everyone to be equal. The government wants everyone
to be equal, take from the have's and give to the have not's.
If you want some of my stars to be equal take some or all of mine, but if you do
you are probably a liberal or from the government.

I've seen too many times that people with lots of stars reply to topics they know little or nothing about. This is especially true, and very aggrevating in the "ask the experts" section. Some people just want to read themselves talk.

.22WRF,I KNEW IT WAS A LEFTY EXTREMIST SOCIALISTIC CONSPIRACY!!It all makes sense now.Personally I don't even look at the stars and the only reason I ever did was when it was mentioned to me.I think many who are so EXTREMELY against them are a little to concerned about it,who really cares.

I think you have to evaluate the member on their previous posts. If they have provided quality information, and knowledgable responses, then the stars are meaningful. The ones who do post to get stars,......well, they just have some stars.

I myself have gotten lots of help from the members with few as well as many stars. I work in an office all day, and I have the time to peruse the board several times each day. If that isn't the same as someone else's job, then either they have benefits which I don't have, due to being stuck behind a desk, OR, they simply needed to complain about something.

Some of the members have different opinions about certain issues, i.e. the posts reguarding high capacity mags or LEO mags for example. The discussion, while offering different points of view, also lends real legal knowledge from some of the members, which is always helpful. And while some members may have multiple responses in those threads, they are legitimate.

At first I didn't like the stars as a knee-jerk reaction, then I realized they came with the new software package and some programmer thought they were a good idea. Since we didn't get the package until the board had been in business for years, they don't mean anything for the people who have been around the longest. I try not to let them get to me one way or the other. Let's be honest indeed. They don't mean anything, except maybe as a way of identifying the brand new guys so we can welcome them in here.
