You'll shoot your eye out...

So after the military I landed in Chicago.
As far as gun ownership goes this place is horrid.
I refuse to apply for a FOID(firearm owner id) on principal so I can't legally own a gun. I thought maybe I could purchase a nice pellet rifle instead seeing as how I've had some nasty squirrels nesting in my attic. I found one I liked, went to Dick's to examine it. Apparently I can't even touch the thing without a FOID since it fires in excess of 750fps. I think it's really nice the government is looking out for me in this respect. I mean, seriously, I could really hurt myself or someone else with a weapon like that. Sure, I've been shooting real firearms since I was 7, served 5 years in the army, consistently scored a 38, 39 or 40 on my qualifiers, never had an accidental discharge and successfully carried/wielded various weapons in the function of my duties without ever harming an innocent person but if that pellet were to strike a brick I might... well... shoot my eye out!

Ok, enlighten me. You are saying that you have to have a card in order to even own a gun in Chicago? Is that a city law or is it statewide? I can't believe that. How does the city or state get away with over-rideing the 2nd Amendment? I guess making me get a license to carry concealed is kind of the same thing but being told that you cannot even own a gun is a different matter.

I knew that there were some states that had stricter gun laws than we do, but this is insane.

From the way I understand it, that's exactly what it is. I can't even TOUCH an unloaded firearm, in a store, without flashing the card. I've always been a law abiding citizen and as long as we're covered by some form of federalism I will continue to do so. It's my choice where I reside and this is an unfortunate consequence of that choice. The day that freedom evaporates is the day I will no longer obey and I have feeling that day is not long in coming.

    Ps. Dick's sucks itself

Yes that is correct everyone in IL in order to buy a gun or purchase ammo needs to have a foid card which is a queer as a football bat.. Unconstitutional as hell and Daley doesnt care...

The good news is here that IF mine does not get renewed I plan on getting a lawyer and going after the meanies.. Under the law I need a current FOID card to own guns, and if mine expires after sending in the application 5 months ahead of time.... Then I will definitely be contacting a lawyer.. I could not find any provision about FOID cards being "in progress"...

Another bit of good news on the concealed carry side is that Chicago wants to bid for the olympics, but they cannot unless they have the support (financial support) from the rest of the state.. The rest of the state wants to pass concealed carry, and IF I know my Chicago politicians I'd be willing to bet they are going to cave in order to get their olympic money... Either that or the rest of the rat meanies are going to sell us out (again) in order to give Chicago their games and their bread...

HAHAH! I suppose if it's gonna happen that would be the way I'd want it to. Just spreading the love. I have a theory if we dropped porn and booze all over the middle east the problem would resolve itself :)

Maybe you can answer a question for me. I was checking local laws on air gun restrictions a few months back and I stumbled across a section which said if the caliber was greater than .18 and velocity was in excess of 750fps it would require a foid card. The 'and' implies you could legally purchase a .177 at any velocity? I can't seem to locate that section anymore. I'm in Kendall county, thank god it's not Cook. If you have any info or know the section I'm speaking of it would be appreciated.

I'm not abandoning this yet. I'm going to check with the local PD and see what I can find out. I'm not even within the village(Oswego) limits so I really don't see why this would be an issue. That GAMO VH is a pretty slick. Also had my eye on a Ruger Airhawk.

    Funny story,
While I was overseas I was working with about 30 locals. Salt of the earth, these are guys who've never been much further than the confines of their own villages with little to no communication with the outside world. My oic gave me a spank mag to check out in the downtime. Spank mag's have never really been my thing but I figured they might find it interesting so I showed them. They were falling over each other to get a look. The older guy looked like he was going to have a heart attack. After a very quiet, long pause. One of the younger guys looks up at me and says 'All american girls like this?' My oic gave me a quick smirk and I said 'No, these are just the ugly ones'. :)
