Saw this question posed on another site...what's the most miles you ever put on a vehicle? Think the best I ever did was about 120,000 on a Chevy pickup....

Well, I've only ever owned one car and it has 90,050.8 miles on it. Dad's 88 Bronco II has 138,000. Had an old 88 Tempo that my uncle sold to my grandpa, who then sold it to dad, which I drove to high school that had 190,000 on it when I got rid of it. Know a guy with a 67 Chevelle with 270,000 on it.

I put 327,000 miles on a 1980 Datson 200SX. The man who bought it from me drove it for a couple of years before he ran into a freight train, seriously, and totalled it when it had near 400,000 miles on it.

My old white '88 Chevy 3/4 ton suburban had over 350K when I got drunk and wrecked her 11/07/99 bout 3am. Really hate that I did that. Gave it to my son-in-law and he pulled the engine and trans as they was still going strong.Had an '83 Lincoln towncar orig engine went at 160K. Put a factory rebuilt in it and got over 225K and it was running when I got rid of it.I firmly believe the secret is maintenance. I try and change oil every couple of years whether it needs it or not.

Got ya all beat so far...after totaling my van a couple of weks ago, I just put my Volvo station wagon back on the road...just turned 336,000 miles last week-end while driving from WI. to the gun show in Indianapolis..I put a transmition in it about 100,000 miles back, and so far 2 timing belts and one water pump, and one alternator, and one starter. Other than standard maintance items...thats it...Oh wait, I had to put a fuel pump in it while getting ready to put it on the road, and a battery (it had sat for two years un- started). I would hop in it and cruise out to NY at a moments notice without batting an eye.

I have a 1985 Toyota Corolla with 319,000 on it. It is just sitting there right now because it needs it's first new clutch. Still runs good but burns a little oil. Been a damn good car. Can't decide on putting 500 or so bucks into a 500 dollar car right now. Ed

A freind of mine tours the country on a Honda Goldwing and a few years ago he made one million miles on his bike. I'm not sure of the year but I believe it is an early 80's model. He says he has only replaced the rings and the brakes.

1967 Chevy Pickup -- 436,853.72 miles, from my grandfather, to my father, to me. (It had about 375k on it when I got it! Yes, that is the exact mileage when it died).1980 Ford Pinto -- 145,000 miles (I bought it with 65k on it)1983 Ford Thunderbird -- 225,000 miles ( I bought it with 85k on it)1980 Ford F100 -- 208,000 miles (I bought it with about 62k on it)1993 Honda Civic EX --185,000 miles and still going strong! (I bought it with 65k on it) They were all parts when they left me, except the Civic, which better get me to work tomorrow! What can I say, I live for that constant blur in my peripheral vision...[This message has been edited by DarkStar11 (edited 03-23-2002).]

I once had a 77 Chevy Nova purchased used at 62,000 she had 147,000 on her when I sold her. People that bought it got two more years from it. It's hard to kill the old Chevy stovebolt six.Bought my 94 GMC Sonoma new in dec 93. She just turned 176,000 last week. 4 banger & automatic. The only thing beyond normal maintenenace has been 1 alternator & 2 coil packs. Bad location on those coils always wet and cold. WOODS

The last 4 VW's I have owned have had at least 155,000 each on them when they were sold. An 88 Jetta had 188,000 on it when we parted ways and I still see it 3+ years after I sold it.

337,689: Thats what the odometer on my '72 Ford Maverick has on it. Its ugly, but its been with me for 16 years, a new engine, 2 transmissions, and some bumper sticker body work/paint job. Personally, I think it is bad to the bone. Its been up the steepest and rockiest roads Camp Pendleton has to offer, and I've ticked off 4 wheel trucks (whose owners dont know how to drive) by crossing creeks that they wouldnt. Its been a blast driving, and its going to NC with me when I leave here, and my 4 wheel drive truck isnt, if that tells you anything, course the truck is a, yak, Datsun, oops, almost threw up there, sorry.

I put 90,000 on my Toyota Celica before selling it. I'd have kept it longer but Toyotas seem to develop an Achilles heel in their electrical system sooner or later that no mechanic I ever took it to could find.

1986 Mercury Lynx (Escort) 1.9L w/ 4 spd trans, bought it with 127,000 miles from an elderly couple and sold it with 573,000+ miles (same engine & trans): used for dead-heading on driveaway contracts. The fellow who bought it from me used it for another 48,000 miles before scrapping it. No on the road break downs. Oil changed enery 2,000 miles plus scheduled maintenance whether it needed it or not. The guy who bought it from me just ran it till it dropped. Often scorned, but that little car certainly earned my respect. Keep fresh oil, do scheduled maintenance, and operate within the specs and most any vehicle will last.

448,000 currently on my Ford F150 Super Cab 4x4. 300 straight six. 4 speed overdrive manual. It's retired to the farm now, but is still street legal with farm tags. Needs a transmission bearing now, but has never had anything other than breaks, batteries, and alternators. It's predecessor had a little over 300,000, and it's replacement just rolled 27,000. Never found a Dodge or Chevy that could match a Ford on toughness or durability. That's whay I stay with them.

Have a 1990 Chevy p/u that just turned over 265,000. Never a problem with the engine, but had to put a fresh tranny in a year ago this past February. Now have to decide if I want to paint it and do some body work or sell. Just in the last month, the paint on the hood wore down to metal, and a hole has rusted in the panel on the driver's side at the bottom of the extended cab, just in front of the bed. It has been a good one!

Saxon. I have a 78 Honda CB750 with over 192,000 and doesn't require the 50 mile bolt tightening required by the domestic junkster. You don't have to buy a Honda $300 jacket to get into the dealership either.
