Well I have been holding off bragging to you all because I've quite smoking so many times over the last 35 years that it's a joke. My wife just laughs when I say I'm quitting again. It has now been 3 weeks and I still think about them a few times a day. This time was different then all the rest and it seems to be working so I thought I would share it with those of you that want to try to quit one more time. I went the hard way, no patch, no pills, I just said that's it. I also keep one cig in my truck and a pack with 2 cigs in my desk at work. I have not touched them but they are there for whatever reason...I'm just not sure. Anyway the grumpies are over and it just the day to day battle now.Jim

Get rid of the cigs now!! It will get easier as time goes on but it won't happen over night. It's been over two years and I still want one now and then but it goes away.Good luck, Rosie

Don't get rid of them. Just knowing you have that option will make you feel better. Remember when you wanted a smoke and you were out? You would stop whatever you were doing and get another pack. When you wanted one but they were in the shop ect. and didn't want to go get them so waited a while? It's the fact that you can no way have one that drives you nuts- but comforting if you can. Good Luck!

Lobo, DON"T LISTEN TO THEM, KEEP THEM! I did the same thing. It's been since July 4th, 1998 and I still have my last unsmoked one. If your addiction is like mine was it's more psychological than physical. Not having them will make you worry about needing one and you'll just go buy more. The last one is kind of a security blanket. This advice came to me from a shrink and I'm passing it to you, it works for some people. I was a 3+ pack a day Marlboro Red smoker for 14 years. On july 2nd I decided I was quitting on the 4th. I also didn't tell anyone close to me for the first two weeks. People don't realize the sress they put on a quitter by reminding them all the time. Think about this when you get a craving. After a year I had saved enough to put a small down payment on a house! Set yourself a goal to spend the money on. Start saving then reward yourself after a year. Good Luck.WOODSOh, if it makes you feel any better, I still start the car and find myself digging in my pocket for a smoke. I'm not thinking about it, it's just an automatic reflex.

Hang in there, Jim.Nicotine is very powerful, but not insurmountable. I only smoked a pack a week ten years ago. One day, I fired one up right after an extremely stressful moment and inhaled deeply - only to find that I had lit the filter! After that, smoking made me immediately physically ill, so I gave it up. Now, I can feel a little tug every once in a while, but it's almost gone.

You did it the right way. You don't try to quit. When you decide that's enough you just quit, not try.You did good keep it up. A person can drink a cup of coffee and a beer without a cigarette. However, I just about beat a hole in my chest while driving my Ford tractor. (D
