Another ( I knew it would go wrong ) calls..

A buddy of mine who has been into reloading for a short time called me up and ask me to come take a look at his case trimming invention so he could trimer in his words " over a thousand casings a hour " if he wanted to ?

So I show up and he takes me to his basement ( can anyone at this point see a train wreck about to happen ? )

He has taken the LEE case hand case trimmer and adapted it to a small wood router that runs about 5,000 RPM`s and wired it to his bench with coat hangers, nailed all kinds of crap all over the bench and what looked like parts from a bicycle to feed the casings into his contraption. Well once he hit the foot peddle to turn it on and he hand cranks some home made handle " sparks begin to fly " smoke pours out of bench underside and out comes the fire extinguisher and a white cloud of smoke from the extinguishers fills the room and we had to evacuate. After helping him get the power turned back on to his basement I left. I had to get away from him so I could laugh my butt off.
This guy is one of a kind.

If the extinguishers were the Type ABC white powder ones typically used in homes, he may have to replace all electrical appliances in that part of the basement.

Keep him away from the gunpowder and primers. At least until the Fourth. Sounds like an explosion waiting to happen[xx(]

I used to have a friend like that. Everytime I'd visit him I was both scared and excited at the same time. You are lucky to have this person as a friend but don't forget your kevlar and football helmet when you visit him!

The guy does have one heck of a creative mind but not the skills to back his mind up.

Trimming casings are precision work. I don't belive you are going to get an accurate job done in a "high production" setting.

Funny, but he didn't think that plan over well. [:)]

I'm sure he just needs to tweak a few things.

Then off to the patent attorney.

WAIT!, Wait!, wait! ... What are you saying you're not going to be with him when he cranks it up again?

You do know of course that the Wright brothers tried things several times over!

Well Alan, I am sure the Wright brothers had the skills behind them to take there invention to flight. If my buddy was with them then I would have to put my money on failure. You just got to know him to see the what happen.

Had a son-in-law like this. Most of the time I was afraid to walk into my work shop for fear what I would find.
