Buyer Beware

Hello,

I just purchased a shotgun on GunBroker and when it arrived yesterday the top latch was not working. I assembled the gun and when I closed the barrels the top latch stays open to the right and does not come back to center unless you push it back.

I contacted the seller who stated he never had a problem with it and that it was NOT like that when he shipped it.

What are my options?

Thanks for your time!

I have seen many posts about deadbeat buyers. We have discussed rating, posting names and other solutions to resolve this problem. I went to another auction when this one was down, needed an auction fix, and bid on a rifle a couple of times then the price jumped up I backed off and did some research. I am not as experienced as the rest of you on the costs of certain guns. So this morning we were back up and running and I checked for this months new rifle cost comparison. Guess what the exact same rifle and seller is posted here. How can this ever work? Do any of you search several sites to make sure you have your bases covered?

Thanks admin, would you suggest that I should watch out for this guy and not bid on his auctions any more. He has good rating on both sites.

I've done that a time or two and to be honest it's almost impossible to track and maintain any form of fairness or accuracy. What if the item get bids on BOTH sites simultaneously? Then the seller has some buku explaining to do to someone! I'd check the seller fb rating if you're too awfully concerned about dealing with him. FB is a great system and you can usually bet if a guy has X amount of fb's he actually has alot more because not everyone takes the time to post fb on a seller and unfortunately alot of sellers don't post for buyers either. Good system and outta be utilized.

Thanks SaxonPig, I now understand and totally agree with the freedom to advertise. I was confused. I noticed that the auction here closes a few days before the other site. I guess that is to our advantage. Thanks again!

I don't bid on dealers auctions. They always want full retail price for the guns and by the time you add shipping and other costs I can go to wally world and save $50 or so. I hunt for bargains, good deals and they are almost nonexistant for the guns I'm looking for. When you question a dealer about his price and explain to him that walmart sells the gun new for less $ than his used one they get all !@#$$! off. I go to auctions to save money and I have not been able to do that on gb with the dealers. The only good deals I find are with private individuals.

I notice a lot of auctions are still closing here without a bidder, and I can see why by looking at the opening bid prices, reserves, etc. I still say we can count on the fact that auction sites are basically buyer driven to straighten this out eventually. It seems to work over on eBay, once the new members realize where they have to price to get bids. Auctions are a calculated risk for both parties -- you can't expect to open your auctions at the price where they should close and get much bidding interest worked up. I agree that I know prices well enough that I'm not going to automatically pay, say, $589 for a Federal clone of the HK G3 Carbine when I know they're now advertised in Shotgun News for $489. I have to add shipping and my FFL's transfer fee to that number. I can do better at a gun show, and have. It's up to the sellers (not dealers, sellers -- it's still an AUCTION site, making sellers & buyers on equal basis) to decide what guns they can sell on the web effectively. Chances are, it won't be what's in the store now. I'd rather sell good used or out of production guns to collectors online than try to direct market what's in the stores now, any day. The answer is, when buyers don't buy, sellers can't stop 'em. Watch the guys who keep relisting at the same high prices. Their auctions will close without a bid week after week. They're trolling for dummies, and I'm not one.

May hasta get the justice dept to 'vestigate this slur.Seriously, I must say that not ALL dealers do that. I admit there are some, (well quite a few) but I know I always start my auctions way below book value with no reserve. The only exception to this is if I am selling for someone else.

oops sorry 'bout that! I shouldve been more carefull when I typed that. I have a problem of thinking too far ahead when I type and my fingers sometimes cant keep up! Most of the dealers I looked at try to get full retail price, some more! There is another regular poster to this board that lists new guns way under retail but they always get sold at more than I want to spend. Like I said the auctions for me is a way to save money and I will not buy a gun at retail online when I can get it cheaper at the store. I have seen some good deals, dealer and private but I have seen way too many people (dealers and private) try to pay the mortgage with one sale. It just happens with the dealers more than the private sellers. I apologize for the profiling, didnt mean to do that. No offense intended.

@anubis@ again brought up a good point.I wish Feedback was mandatory for both Sellers and Buyers. Then a good system of checks and balances would be even better. There's already enough out there to be concerned with.I've always tried to give my 2 cents.perhaps common courtesy isn't so common...
    just my 2 cents...

Here's one for ya. I was contacted by a dealer on an auction that the reserve was never met. Turns out he set the reserve to high so he could list it and then sell it after the auction was over and not have to pay the GB fees. Goo? Bad? Ugly? I have no idea, I turned him down cause he sounded like a schister on the phone, maybe he was a cocaine freak.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, take it to a mechanic. will270win@aol.com ~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

As 7mm said I also only look for deals because most of the stuff on here is geting like the gun shows with it's smoking crack prices. I think Most sellers think we are all Idiots or something, I just sit back and laugh at their buy it now price. I mean realy when they come up with it are they taking a hit on a bong or what! And the reserve price HAH...OH WELL such is life bid if you want or don't.JMHORich
