I WAS ON MY PROPERTY ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. I WAS SITTING IN THE WOODS WATCHING FOR DEER AND HEARD SOME BIRDS BACK BEHIND ME GOING CRAZY,TURNED MY HEAD AROUND AND SEEN A BOBCAT PACING BACK AND FORTH,BELIEVE HE MAY HAVE CAUGHT MY SCENT,DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. I PULLED MY 9MM OUT AND SHOT AT IT ALTHOUGH I DID NOT HAVE A GOOD SHOT. I WANTED ONLY TO RUN HIM INTO THE NEXT COUNTY IF I COULD. HE DID RUN, KEPT WATCHING AND THOUHT HE WAS GONE. I SAT BACK DOWN AND ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATER,HEARD THE LEAVES RUSSLE TO THE RIGHT OF ME,LOOKED AND HE WAS ABOUT 15 FEET FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING.I STOOD UP AGAIN AND SCREAMED AT HIM,HE MADE A SOUND THAT MADE THE HAIR STAND UP ON THE BACK OF MY HEAD,I SQUEEZED THE TRIGGER AND HE FELL OVER. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS SHAKING JUST A LITTLE BECAUSE I HAD NEVER ENCOUNTERED A BOBCAT BEFORE. QUESTION IS WHY DID HE COME AROUND ON ME LIKE HE DID AND NOT RUN AWAY FROM ME? IT WAS LEGAL HUNTING SEASON FOR BOBCAT TO ANSWER A QUESTION BEFORE IT IS ASKED ALTHOUGH I WOULD HAVE SHOT IN ANY CASE BEING THAT CLOSE.
THIS IS NOT HOG WASH, THIS IS INDEED A TRUE STORY!!!!!!!!!!

    I've never heard them in the fall but in the spring during mating season they can let out a blood curdiling scream not unlike a woman getting her head cut off in a horror movie!Possibly they use this scream to locate each other? I don't know, but it sent my father and I running into our woods with guns loaded! My mother saw the cats meet-up in the field while dad and I where trying to figure out what the screaming was about. Man was that ever eerie! Every time we thought we where close one would scream from another section of the woods and off we'ed go.
    Though I was born to royalty, I was snatched at birth, so treat me as the noble I am!!!

    My guess would be the reason he was acting that strange is because he was a very sick animal----rabies maybe??? They are normally very shy.

    I was deer hunting with a buddy of mine when this happened to him, He was leaning aganst an old abandonded hog pen when he saw something crouching at the rear of one of the pens, He looked closer into the pens blocking the doorway, he made out the shape of a cat crouched in the back and put his hand out and started saying here kitty-kitty come on, here kity-kitty,the cat let out a scream and so did my buddy as the bobcat ran around the side of the pen and upside down over my buddies head out the doorway, I think his wife had to throw away his underware when he got home that evening...

    A good friend of mine was out turkey hunting one spring and he stood up to start walking and two bobcats were homing in on his position. He said the closest one was only a few feet from him when stood up. I would imagine that if they hear or smell something that they think might be food, generally their gonna investigate.

    Lightning is correct. Bobcats are inherently afraid of humans. Any time one challenges a humam like that, it's sick. Kill it but don't handle it. Then call the health department or county agent so they can take it to the lab and determine what illness it had.
