Just saw a Rem 700 at the shop the other day with the whole varmint set-up. Anywho, what does everyone think of the round, especially compared to the .223? Thanks.

You saw a Remington in .204? As far as I know, Ruger, H&R and Savage were the only ones chambering that right now. I'l have to check on that. Anyway, the .204 is a neat cartridge, but I don't think it offers any real advantage over a .223 or .22-250. The .204 advertises 4225 FPS with a 32 gr. bullet. The .22-250 will achieve over 4100 FPS with a 40 grainer. Also, the 32 gr. V-max is the ONLY bullet currently available. I think it's biggest selling point will be that it is something new and different for those that already have 1 or more .22 centerfires. I don't think you'll be dissappointed, but I would not venture to say that it wil do you any better than a more traditional .224" round.

Just about everybody and their brother is now chambering the 204 Ruger. Lot's of after market bullets available. Only factory loads that I know of and have are the 32 and 40 V-Max loads by Hornady. Have several boxes of each.

I think that the .204 Ruger is just like several other cartridges that have come out lately. They are answers to questions that were never asked!!
