question about suppressors

Does adding a suppressor to a rifle or pistol decrease accuracy and velocity? If so, significantly, or not so much?

TIA

velocity, no change. accuracy, I don't think it does but nwcid, who actually has some, saw a slight increase with some models.

Modern suppressors do not effect velocity, or at least should not effect it in any way. Modern suppressors are just a baffled chamber for gases pretty much like your car muffler. It allows for the high pressure in the BBL to release slower as to not get a "boom" from the high pressure inside the BBL to the lower outside pressure.

Now there are 2 noises guns make the first it the "boom" as described above, and this is the sound suppressors reduce. The second noise is the one made when the bullet breaks the speed of sound. For suppressor to be truly effective you need to use subsonic ammo.

As for accuracy most times suppressors increase accuracy but I have not heard a good reason why. My thoughts are due to many reasons in my order, they reduce recoil, they reduce muzzle climb, they reduce noise (shooter flinch even tiny ones by good shooters), and have a more even gas venting (similar to why people target crown bbls).

As NWCID said- my thoughts are a slight change in barrel harmonics.

They will shift the point of impact. If firing a scoped rifle or handgun, your scope will need to be adjusted accordingly.
