Shameless H & R M1 plug CMP Correct Grade

I bought a CMP Correct Grade rifle from a private party a couple of years back and decided to list it for sale:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=271724099
The Correct Grade is one of the CMP Premium grade rifles which, while making outstanding shooters, are geared more to the collector who is looking for a rifle which has all correct parts. Availability on these is spotty and they tend to be on back order with waits longer than the 60 days claimed by the CMP. The current list price is $1150 but I bought this one at a really good price and have an opening bid $150 under the CMP price. This is a really nice rifle and is exactly the sort of M1 that I have in my personal collection but with tax time around the corner and since I can use a little extra cash, I decided to let this one out of the safe. If you have been looking for a collector quality M1 rifle then this one bears consideration. If a forum member buys it I will include a good condition web sling.
Thanks for looking.

Don't need one (got 2), but that is one of the nicest of the affordable collectable Garands I've seen in a bit.
Someone is going to be a happy bidder[:)]
BTW, Google Chrome is retarded. It thinks that "Garand" is spelled wrong.
Very nice rifle. I see Old Colts has already bid on it. Since I don't bid against board members I will wait for your next offering. I appreciate you letting us know when they come up.I very much appreciate your loyalty to GB members, it is admirable! While I bid on this nice H&R, I already have a superior Mark Christian M1. So, please bid, you won't hurt my feelings at all; besides, it will go for much higher than I bid, so you might as well get to bidding!!!! [:D]
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
This one is awsome looking.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, but if you want to pass up on winning auctions just because a board member is in the mix then I guess that's your prerogative. Seems incredibly foolish to me...

Kevin - No, it is not foolish as your refer to it. It is just what I do and that is all it is. For example: I did the same thing on the previous Garand Old Colts bought from Mark.

That is an interesting outlook on bidding. Had I listed this rifle like locust Fork does with her penny openers and OC had bid $1 would you still not bid on the rifle?
I don't see any downside to this M1; It is worth an easy $1150 when purchased directly from the CMP, you don't have to wait 60 days to get it and you already know exactly what it looks like.
Hey Mark, Did you ever try the "Tommy Gun" Vodka?
If Bill doesn't get too mad, I'm planning on bidding on that!!
Hey Mark, Did you ever try the "Tommy Gun" Vodka?Bid away, you won't hurt my feelings at all; just means I'll have more money for a Single Action I want! [:D] As a matter of fact, if you'll hurry up and bid I'll be able to go over and purchase the Colt on Saturday! [8D]
Seriously, when it comes to collectable firearms, sometimes we just have to set friendships aside when the right gun comes along!
Also, here's a free bump for Mark's Shameless Plug. [:)]

Mark - Since this is not a penny auction, that is an apples-to-oranges comparison and not applicable to my view on bidding. Not bidding on auctions that other board members guns have bid on before me is just something I do out of respect for others on this board. That really is all it is, and it makes me sleep better. I have no clue why no one gets this. FYI - If I had bid before Old Colts, then I would keep bidding, but that did not happen.
Lastly, I agree that your gun is worth every bit of $1150, and I do not doubt it will go even higher than that.
FYI - If I had bid before Old Colts, then I would keep bidding, but that did not happen.Keep watching, when someone outbids me, go for it!

The issue on the table is bidding on an auction you know a board member is also bidding on. The bid price at the time is irrelevant and totally meaningless.
If the dollar amount of the bid matters, where is the line? 10 dollars? A hundred dollars? A thousand dollars? Give me a ln idea of where the line in the sand is?
Bidding on auctions an thus acquiring firearms is business. Furthermore, another hole in your plan is that there are forum members wih different auction names then their forum names. You may be bidding against a forum member as we speak.
Anyway, it's your money and your life. You have the inherent right to make your own choices. While I personally think its a ridiculous concept to not bid against forum members, if that's how you want to do it then more power too you...

I've never not gotten it. Sometimes I just like to argue for the sake of arguing. Not a single thing that happens on this board actually matters to me on a deep personal level. This is a source of entertainment for me. I don't actually care about anything that happens here.
My intrinsic love of a good visceral argument is often confused with actual emotional involvement. I've tried to clear that up many times over the years, but nobody seems to get it. None the less, even though I'm misunderstood I sleep just fine. On my right side.

Kevin - Our exchange last night got me to thinking why I operate the way I do on this board, and in life. I guess I am one of those people that operate best with rules to live by. It may seem foolish to some of you as you stated, but it works for me. My number one rule is the Golden Rule. I just don't screw with people, and hope others don't screw with me. That doesn't work all the time, but most of the time.
I indicated earlier this had happened before with Old Colts on his previous win of a Garand from Mark. When I found out that he had bid before me, and that he really wanted it, I bowed out. Long story short, OC had to bid much higher to win the gun had I not bid.
Some of you may not believe this, but here is the post where it was discussed. http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=520709

Boomerang....you are one of the VERY BEST people I know.
ive been to gun stores and shows with friends before(and when i say friends, i mean actual flesh and blood people who i know and have know for years and have an actual relationship with in the real world). if one of my companions expresses an interest in a gun that i also have an interest in, who ever plants their flag first gets to make their deal.
if for some reason a deal cant be reached, then im not going to walk away from it just because one of my friends wants it. they get the chance to make their best offer. if its not excepted, im free to come in and make my best offer.
this is a completely different setting however. this isnt two folks haggling over a gun at a show. this is an auction, where the highest bidder in theory takes the prize. i dont personally see your decision to abstain from bidding because another forum has an interest also; but since im not bidding against you i havent a dog in this fight so we can let it go.
you do you, i'll do me and we'll all carry on peaceably....
its your decision to make. i dont see the logic myself, but if thats the way you want to do it then its your decision.

Kevin - Why does the way I prefer to operate within rules upset you so? Just let it go!! You are gong to have a heart attack worrying about little things like this. Furthermore, as I predicted, Mark got what he wanted for his gun and more without me bidding.
