Sons of Guns

After watching a few episodes I'm convinced that these guys are a bunch of hacks. Sure some of their concepts are cool but some of their manufacturing techniques don't lead to the quality one would expect. Also their safe gun handling skills are terrible. I just about fell out of my chair when the remote control roof mounted auto jammed and the guy aproaches it from the muzzle end to look for the problem. I'm suprised no one has gotten seriously injured or killed yet.

discovery is airing a new show starting on Jan 26th called "sons of Guns" or something like that. From what I can Glean from the commercial it is about a guy who makes all sorts of guns and weapons. May be worth a view
seems dangerous.
in the saiga 12 game, tromix is pretty much the king of converters/gunsmiths. before the show, red jacket was pretty much the affordable bottom of the barrel conversion.
the only person who may be an actual gunsmith on the show is the young guy with the beard. heard someone say it was time well spent at school. he did do a nice job on the sawed off shotgun.
it would have been a great investment. you could get a red jacket saiga 12 converted for around 7-8 hundred bucks and now they demand the same prices as a tromix or tac47.... WILD!
the craftsmanship didn't go up!
I wish them the best of luck and hope they represent the shooting sports well and don't play games for TV which would harm our constantly attacked heritage.
The episode with the old MOH receiptient and the flame thrower was one example. He acted like he was putting his life on the line just to be near the damn thing! When he fired the flame thrower he shot up in the air, as opposed to on the ground, like the old Marine did.
One of the latest episodes with the "boozoka" sounded like he was a virgin with this weapon also. No one in the Corps calls it a boozoka! It is a 3.5 rocket launcher. I am getting a little tired of his cockiness, and his lack of knowledge. That's just my opinion.
Arrogant prick is about right on the owner. Too many cocky gun shop owners now. He's daughter mentioned once that her dad had been a Marine. Just listening to some of the terms he uses makes me wonder about which Marine Corps he was in. In ITR after boot camp we learned to fire, and/or use about every weapon we might run across during our tour.

you also have to consider that they inject drama into the show. otherwise, you would be watching a shop make machine guns. pretty lame to the average person that's not that into guns....
they know they are under a microscope and try to conduct themselves in a positive manner while still being entertaining.
Not a good idea. Even if you did all the paperwork for this, you are left with a gun that you have no idea how well it was made... the receiver on an ORIGINAL Thompson was made to handle full auto, who knows if the same can be said of this replica?
Also, for the money spent, I would think that the PD in question could have just bought a full auto Ruger Mini 14 and been done with it.

I just watched them hack up a replica Tommy gun and turn it into a full auto for a local sheriff.

It is aimed toward a very dumb audience.
Some here actually are dumb enough to watch it???

Watched that one too. They lost me when they replaced the 80 year old spring on a replica gun. Why would a replica have an original spring?
I remember seeing old film clips where the fuel from the flamethrowers commonly dripped burning fuel all the way from the muzzle to the target. He is luck he didn't fry himself shooting it in the air. The other guy probably knew better.
I'm pretty sure the Howdah is exactly what they were after. Makes you question their gun knowledge............
Wannabe gunsmiths with enough skill to be dangerous.........
What gunsmith is going to do a conversion and demo it to a customer before thorough testing?
1. It's entertainment. No such thing as reality TV (they just happen to bump into a MoH winner?). It's scripted.
2. I don't know NOTHIN' about the stuff they play with on this show. I have zero experience with machine guns and bazookas and flame throwers so I can't comment on accuracy of what they do or say.
3. Yeah, the owner is a bit of a prick. And one gunsmith is a goof. It's all from central casting (see #1).
4. I still find it fun to watch. If I were more knowledgeable about machine guns maybe it would turn me off.
Too old to live...too young to die...
This was all hasedc out about a week ago...

I agree this was all hashed out last week - but topics are a bit thin today.
The technical info is nil.
The drama is pitiful.
The owner comes off as an over privilaged, arrogant, self righteous prick.
So I ask you, where is the entertainment? - and yes I do know where the off button is.[:)]
Just my 2 cents.

I saw that also and thought the same thing, but then realized he was approaching from the rear. What looked like the barrel staring him in the face was the buffer tube sticking out the back of the mount. The gun they used had no stock on it as one was not needed as it was easier to mount.
The show does overdo the "attitude" element. These guys are plan old folks TRYING to be actors and it doesn't work.
It is a stupid TV show designed to sell commercials.
It is aimed toward a very dumb audience.

Well, I'm dumb enough to watch it. However, I just see it as entertainment. I don't think the owner, his name escapes me, is anything all that impressive, when it comes to building guns. But hey, it's just a show.
As far as the shows I enjoy, for entertainment purposes, I really like Pawn Stars. But again, it's cut and splice, and a high dose drama, type show. Hell, I bet these producers could even make my life seem interesting.
I stand corrected. I do find a couple faults with the setup though. The turent cover does not appear to be of a material that would resist the impact of even a handgun round and a mag/drum fed gun? Who gets to get out and swap mags under fire when it is empty?
I believe it was mounted above a sun roof. But yeah, didn't look like ballistic plastic to me.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

if it was mounted over a sunroof why did they have to crawl out of the truck to change the mag??

gesshots- No accounting for taste. One man's art is another man's trash. I enjoy the program and find it entertaining.

She's not ugly (that snaggle tooth doesn't help, though) but my wife is more attractive and rule #1 states Always Trade Up.
