I can get a brand new, centerfire, synthetic stocked, tapped receiver, magazine fed, accurate as all get out Savage 110 for 300.00.

But a stainless steel Savage MUZZLE LOADER with synthetic stock, (oh, it fires smokeless, woo hoo), costs 410.00, ON SALE! What kind of crack have the folks at Savage been smoking lately?

The question isnt what kind of crack have they been smoking, its why does a muzzle loader costs more than a centerfire?

Would it have to do with---"they know what they are doing?"
It takes as much work to a good job of making an obsolete gun, as a gun in high demand- Right?
If you are paid $20.00 an hour- you want paid that amount no matter if you make crap or make what is wanted! Are you paid less if you make junk?- I don't think so! How many buy this gun? The cost is greater to make that which doesn't sell as fast. The buisness takes the chance that supplies will be sold! And then their is insurance.....
When you run a buisness- you will see the chances you take!

One thing is for certain, my business will not be trying to sell a less desirable product inferior in its capablilities to what I have already been selling, at a cost of 25% greater. This doesnt even begin to mention that they are marketing a bolt gun with a smokeless powder ignition system, that muzzle loads. This may sound great to some, but I call it open for challenge to many muzzle loading laws in different states, and its likely that it will have low volume sales due to it being restricted to non muzzle loading seasons. There are already several states that ban certain types of muzzle loaders, and this one is already on the chopping block in those states, guranteed. Now, lets mention the fact that although they have certain unique features, they are not unique enough to set them that far apart from the inline systems that we already have, at a MUCH cheaper price. That is what I call stupid in my book, and it doesnt take a business sense to figure that one out. Its right up there with thinking you can stay in business by only selling products made in the USA, as we have discussed before. I think of myself as pretty knowledgeable about what the public will buy, and mark my words, this one wont be around long, not at these prices, with the limitations already existing that will surely be placed on its use. People that want to hunt with a muzzle loader do so for different reasons, but to shoot an expensive muzzle loader that isnt traditional, or pretty, or acceptable in all states isnt going to be one of them. This gun has only one market niche, the use in rugged environments where a synthetic stock, stainless steel, and smokeless powder will ensure someone reliable ignition and a gun impervious to the elements. Those are very desirable qualities, but they dont fit in with most muzzle laoder's needs. People that need those qualities take a centerfire.

Ryan, some good points there. For states like mine that don't allow center fire rifles, the inline is as close to a real hunting rifle as they come here.We are allowed handgun hunting. The 10ML-SS that your talking about is a nice piece and that price you mentioned is rather low,at least in these parts.I do own two inlines, both a blast to shoot, but nothing like the fun of a flint.I do think that we'll see Savage making an inline for some time to come, just my O2.We may see others following with the dual powder format.I talked with a guy that was doing some testing for savage and was getting some serious fps,but I was not impressed with the groups.I'd like to hear from someone shooting one.
