For all around distance shooting and serious meat gathering I like the 30-06. For fun and close range hunting with a rifle or pistol I like the 38-40 or 44-40. For all day fun shooting with a rifle or pistol I like the good old 22LR.

    Hi Gang,
Out of all the guns I own, my favorite and most used are the following.
    22 Long Rifle, 22WMR, 30-30 WIN, 7 X 57 Mauser, 30-06 Springfield

I also have a wildcat that I am very fond of. It is a "30 GIBBS", Nice custom job built on a 1903 Springfield action. Its a complicated process forming the brass, but its a labor of love.

I also had a .280 Remington that I somehow horse traded away, I wish I hadn't. If you load your own, the 280 REM is hard to top.

For handguns, I like the .45 auto. I have an older Colt 1911A1 and a little NAA .22 Mag 5 shot "ear gun" that I keep in my pocket.

Ones that I have in the gun safe that I dont get to shoot very often but still think deserve honorable mention are the 6.5 X 55 SWEDE and nicely sportorized Mod 98 in 8 X 57 Mauser (the 8 X 57 being another handloaders cartridge)

Two that I have always had on a short list to aquire, but haven't done so yet ... are the 260 REM and the 7MM-08, seems like very good medicine for deer.

The old "Ought Six" is the biggest in my arsenal .... I dont like to be kicked like a mule when I pull the trigger.

    7mm Magnum Big Game
223 with a close second going to 22-250 for small game only because it is more expensive.
This 7mm pill was resting against the hide on the opposite side of the entrance this year. Deer never took another step.

My favorite calibers are as follows. 8mm Mauser (I seriously dont think there is a better cartridge.) And 300 WBY mag for accuracy. I just love the 8mm (hence why I stockpiled 800rnds of hunting ammo) The round is just amazing, It has incredible knockdown power and pretty good accuracy. The only thing I dont like about it is shooting a few of these babies will definately give you one hell of a sore arm.

I'm been thinking about this. It's hard to pick just one.
If I could have just one I think I would take my 45 Colt.
1 in Ruger Blackhawk and one in a Winchester.[:)]
It's not the fastest or the flatest shooting but whatever I hit with the open sights, that 255gn piece of lead seems to make fall down.

Completely forgot about the german 88 how could I betray my heritage like that. I still find it funny that a gun that was designed to be an AA gun(thats anti-aircraft for those of you that dont know) turned out to be the best artillery cannon and tank gun of all time (would blow holes right through our shermans) any of you guys see the military channels top 10 tanks it was full of crap the Panzerkampfwagon VI or Tiger I tank should have been number one on that slot.

Remember what you had written on your notebook in school? It went something like, "blankety, blank.....loves whoever happens to be around" (fill in the 'blankety, blank' with your name).

My favorite caliber is similar. It's whatever I happen to be holding in my hand at the time I'm shootin'.
