I'm looking at buying my first AK. Any of you know anything about Century arms.I was told they are built in the states. Is there a real difference in one AK to the other or should I save up a little more and buy an AR?7.67x39 ammo is a lot cheaper than 5.56

take this for what it is worth, But I bought an sks, and I wasn't happy with it. I just bought a 7.62x39 upper for my AR and could not be happier. Now I regret I wasted the money on the sks.

I know the sks and AK are not the same, but my point is having 1 lower and multiple uppers is now the way to go. I will be adding a 5.45x39 upper after I get my slide fire.

I hope this was of some help, good luck on your venture.

cheapest is the WASR by Century Arms

is is not built here, it is made in Romania for a single stack mag, and then shipped here and modified to accept the std AK mag. Certain US parts have to be added to meed Fed requirements.

They are hit and miss, by all accounts. Some front sights are canted. I had one, it fired fine, but I traded up for something better.

They are easy to spot, they do not have the "dimples" above the mag well.

Again, a functional firearm, but there are better AK's out there.

Arsenal is more $$$, but a better product IMHO

The century arms AK (Romanian WASR mentioned above) is cheap. That alone is justification enough to buy one. If you want a silk purse, don't buy a sow's ear (AK) but a nice rifle. If you want a great accurate rifle with good fit & finish, then buy a Rem 700 or other nice bolt action. But if you want a cheap 7.62x39 that works, get the WASR.

I have one. It works. It's cheap. That is the essence of AK.

Everything you want to know about century Romanian AK's.

Stamped AK's such as the Wasr and Saiga can suffer from barrel cant when barrels are pressed into the receiver, look at this link to see how to identify it:

Best to handle them in person when buying.

There are nicer AKs with better fit and finish as compared to the Wasr but Wasrs will work for the most part.

Look for one that already has a Tapco G2 Trigger assemply. It will say Tapco on it if you remove the top cover and bolt assembly.

That's all good information to pay attention to.

One more thing I'd add is that I've seen a good deal of WASRs that the magwells are a little too tight, but they are very easy to open up a little with a dremel.
