Taking uninsured cars off the highway.....

Recently, in the City of Dallas, Texas, they passed an ordinance that if you are pulled over by law enforcement and not able to provide proof of insurance, your car will be towed right away.

Afterwards, to retrieve your car after being impounded, you must show proof of insurance to have your car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars that are typically driven by mostly illegals.

Shortly after "No insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up quickly and were full after nine days. Most of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.

Not only must you provide proof of insurance to have your car released, you have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and charged $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.

I would suggest other cities across the nation to follow what Dallas , Texas is doing. Not only is it getting uninsured drivers off the road, but it is taking away vehicles driven by illegals that have no insurance that might endanger your life.
Brings a tear to my eye.

GO Texas !
Dallas' Solution Get them off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.

Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one.

Dallas, TX's solution to Illegal's...............

Brilliant!!!

After a week they should sell them and use the money for the state. It'd be called "Clunkers 4 Cash". I've seen some messicans driving pretty nice rides though.

Most the messicans comin into the shop for inspections are in dodge trucks here. Most times I can't pull them in either, I can't see through them tassles hangin in front of the windshield. 5'6" pedro can see fine, 6'2" colton can't. And if you ask for the registration they start panicking. Guess I should tell them the car's papers, not theirs.[:D]

There should be an exception to this law though. If you show up and you have proof of insurance from the time of the traffic stop there shouldn't be any fine. I myself have been unable to find my insurance card a time or two and would be upset if I had to pay a $350 fine AND the tow bill.

This is a really REALLY bad idea. The illegals drive worthless klunkers and paying to get them out of impound makes no economic sense. It cheaper to go buy another klunker. The impound lots charge the taxpayers exorbenent fees to store and endless string of cars that will never leave the impound lots.

My litmus test is: Does it give government (local, state, or fed) more authority? Obviously it does and thus I think it's a bad idea.

I don't drive around hoping you have enough insurance to cover me if we have a wreck - I carry enough to cover myself.

who pays the towing expense for an unclaimed vehicle?
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

    THERE is the key.

I carry a 100/300 policy. I have for some years. Just makes more sense.

Some uninsured * hits me, I have it covered. THAT is why I pay for insurance.

The taxpayers, of course. And the owners of the impound storage lots get rich from the taxpayers. And the Illegals laugh.

I don't know about other states but I doubt that. In NC, owner is responsible, if vehicle is not claimed after thirty days, there is a process to transfer title to the storage co., who can then sell the vehicle for their fees.

That's a good idea, but what do they do when the value of the car is less than the towing and impound fees?

In Illinois the tow company gets the title for the vehicle and then sell the vehicle to collect their fees. Police tows aren't paid for by the taxpayers.
