When Is A Newbie No Longer.......

MarnerMarner Member Posts: 2,977
edited May 2009 in General Discussion
When is a newbie no longer considered to be a newbie? This is a troubling question which haunts me day and night. Could not a Rite Of Passage ceremony be established to ritually mark the transition of newbie to that exalted status of whatever a non-newbie is called? Then there would be no doubt who is who and which is which. Of course non-newbie criteria would need to be clearly defined. This could include seniority as well as activity and of course the newbie would have had to learn to seem very bright. There could also be a stipulation that if the new non-newbie posted something that wasn't very bright there would be a temporary demotion back to newbie status. This could even be made to apply to old non-newbies. After three such demotions for not being very bright the new newbie or the old newbie as the case may be would be condemned to permanent newbie status and would be forced to withdraw and re-appear with a new and different username.

You end your newbieness when you either pass 2500 posts, or you have a gun giveaway at 1298 posts. That's when you really fit in.

I don't like that idea because I don't want to change my user name. Besides, I thought it worked kind of like living in this part of Virginia. If you weren't born here you're a newbie. I was born in Alabama so I'll always be a newbie. I live at the "Old Merle Place". It can't be the "JamesRK Place" in this generation or the next. Maybe after that.

One of the worst arguments I ever saw between two sailors was a CWO4 and a LDO Commander. One of them had a little over thirty years in and the other had just under forty. They were calling each other "boot" (newbie).

When you have a decent giveaway! Or.....when you have a knock down drag out fuss with everyone else with a username and still come back. (After these fussy fits we all know everyone still picks on you....so the first thread or two don't count after this fuss.)

I believe it was decided on a thread earlier this month that a member is a newbie until they reach 20,000 posts...

But couldn't getting locked out at least once count for some sort of seniority?

You're no longer a nub when you stop posting for a few months and people still remember who you are when you start again.

ok here we go. I believe in just jumpin in. So let me start some fuss by asking if it is politically correct to call me newbie ? Is there not a better term, one without any hurtful cussing, poking fun ? WELL ?[:D][:p][:)][?]

When you post thousands and thousands of times, and then act like you've been here longer then someone who has several more years.

I was gone for a few days and got an email from Doug Wilson. Does that count for anything?

too many noobs with high post counts to use that as an indicator, should be something to do with time passed since your first post.

I think the Member determines that.

When you find yourself spontaneously starting a thread or answering a post, without giving it any thought as to whether everybody else will think you're stoopid.

    Then, you aren't a newbie.

    My name is Doug...and I'm a newbie.

I guess I'm in the gray area between Noob and Non Noob status then. Because I've only been here for a little over 3 years, and I'm just shy of 12,000 posts.

Damn...that's almost a 4,000 posts a year average. I spend way too much time on here....[V][V][V][V]

    YOU MIGHT STILL BE A NEWBIE IF;

You ask a question and you get one polite sincere answer from JamesRK and 19 smartazz remarks from non-newbs.

You mention the NRA in a positive manner.

You haven't yet been ripped by Highball.(see above)

You haven't yet been preached at by LT496.(see above)

You only have one firearm and no ammo yet. And it's a Raven 25.

You ask how to get your FFL.

You ask who "Remote Girl" is.

You want to know how many "bullets" your Raven "clip" holds.

You think this forum is all about guns.

You haven't developed a really thick hide.

You think responses without a smiley are always serious.

You get insulted by anything on GB.

Some post actually makes you angry.

You don't know the first names of everybody posting.
