I was looking into buying a Ruger P-89 in 45. I already have a sig in 45. Anyone have a p-89 in 45? Like it? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The P-89 is chambered for the 9mm only and is a great gun.The P-90 is chambered for the .45acp and has a very good reputation.Ruger also released a polymer framed .45acp called the P-97 and Ive had no problems at all with any of the P-series Handguns.HTH

    Good Luck!!

    I have two P-89's and a P-90.
No problems with these or the other 10 or 11 Rugers I have.

I had a P90 that was one of the most reliable 45's I ever owned. My biggest mistake was to let a bud talk me out of it. Wish I had it back.

I also have a P-90, have about 1000 rounds through it with no trouble ever. [:)]

My KP-89 was flawless, but not exactly for me.
    I DID trade it, + some cash, for a Ruger SP-101 [:D]

addendum I hate to say this, but as ironjohn929 so eloquently says, my KP-89 WAS big and ...clunky. The ambi mag release distracted me, and it was kinda large. For a big gun, I want slim.

But it was very sturdy, and light compared to my Colt.

I have a P89 and as other contributers have mentioned it is a VERY reliable weapon....However I wouldn't dream of carrying it concealed. It's just too big and clunky. I tried to carry it in a shoulder gig, and it pulled my shoulder dang near down to the ground. I tried to carry it in a pants holster and it pulled my pants plum off. I finally just resorted to carrying around in my hand......just kidding!

I've got the P-89. First semi I purchased and will be the last one I sell. It is heavy to carry but an excellent shooter!! Also owned the P-90. Great gun for a 45. Sold it though, to heavy to carry. Purchased the P-97 and LOVE it for concealed.

The best way to carry the Ruger P-85, P-85MKII, and the P-89 is in the small of the back, either mexican style or with a canted holster.

I carried a P-85MKII this way for almost ten years without a holster.

Edited to include this WARNING: When carrying your gun without a holster DO NOT have a round chambered. Keep the safety off, and be ready to rack as you draw.

I have a Ruger KP90 that I picked up at a gunbroker.com auction. I really like the pistol and I think it looks better than the KP97. The KP90 does not function the best with the cheap Wolf ammo though. I bought some Sellier and Bellot and had great results.
