He scored a 98 on his finals in Biology.[:)][:)][:)][^] I swear he is someone else's kid[:D] He sure made us proud. I thought he was done after next year, but he said he has three more years. Six years total for his degree in Wildlife Biology and chemistry. God bless him, I couldn't do it. Oakie

I can provide you some space, all you have to do in return is prepare next winters "solid fuel" heat, and if your still here when it gets cold, handle the stoking duties.
It shouldn't be to hard as I only burn an average of 27 tons/season

My own nephew is 27 and can't hold down a job for more than 3 months, has 3 illegitimate children all on welfare, is estranged from the mom.
So it is great to hear a success story. What kind of career does your son intend to pursue with his 2 master's degrees?

That is what he started out doing. He changed his major to biology. He wants to be a wildlife biologist for the state of Colorado and study the health of animals and maybe become a vet. He is leaning toward becoming a wildlife Biologist though. He said he rather work with animals then people. He is also going for his degree in Chemistry. Too many brain cells for one person. He told Donna and i that he was only going to med school for us and that he really didn't want to waste our money doing something that he didn't or wouldn't like. We told him to follow HIS dreams, not ours. He had a full ride to Johns Hopkins, but turned it down. One major reason is because he wanted to live at home because of what happened to him when he was younger. He has a fear of living with strangers or being out of his "comfort" zone. Oakie
I wish the young man well.
I would suggest he get some field experience where ever he can along the way and learn how to manipulate the habitat (plowing, burning, planting, growing, etc). Most biologists don't come from a working rural background any more, and that experience goes a long way (particularly with us older guys). If he goes the Vet route, he probably needs to get in that arena through the research side of wildlife. There are very few wildlife vets that don't work through academia. I wish him luck, and if I can help him, give me a holler....

It is not that hard to do.

Seriously, congratulations!
I think there are too many folks that go to higher education now a days just because they don't know what they are supposed to do after high school.
It is great to hear about those that actually are seeking an education and not just spending some time until they figure out what they want to do with their lives.
Oakie - sounds like he is thinking and glad he can follow his dream. I have loved my 35+ year career as a wildlife biologist, and just about everybody but my parents thought I was nuts for turning down MLB offers. I wouldn't trade a thing. He will have to learn that a wildlife biologist does have considerable interaction with people. Hard to manage wildlife without good rlationships with the folks who own the land. The states and Feds are so political these days and are tasked with multi-use management, budgets and the like. Red tape sure gets in the way these days. But you do get to the field a lot, at least in the beginning.

Thank you. I would love to put Chris in touch with you if I could. I would really appreciate that. I have connections into the New Jersey Fish and Wildlife, I was a hunter ed instructor and also do all their HVAC work. I can get him volunteer field work in NJ, but his dream is to work in Colorado. I also have family in Texas as well. Chris has his poop together and can really communicate well with other people. This is a perfect fit for him. Animals love him for some reason.
Quick funny story. I took him to a horse farm last year. The owner said to us, do NOT try to pet that one horse, Black Jack, as he will kick you and bite. He is one mean sob. I was talking to the farmer when we looked over and there was Chris, Holder in his right hand and petting the horse with his left hand. The horse was eating grass Chris had picked out of his hand. The owner said to me, that is amazing, no one can get close to that stubborn animal. The next thing we know, Chris climbed under the fence and was petting the horse and walking around with it. The owner threw a saddle on him and let Chris take him for a ride. He said to me as Chris rode away, I'll be damned, Never seen anything like that, That horse won't let anyone ride him. [:)] Yeah, he has that calming affect on animals and people as well. Oakie
